Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a printer capable of executing an erasing action by one character unit even if the character to be erased requires erasing action for two characters according to the appropriate memory by furnishing a memory device in which characters requiring two motions for printing one character and requiring one motion for printing are discriminated and stored accordingly. CONSTITUTION:By depressing an input key 1, for example, in the order of words to be conversed with, the printing is performed on a printing tape 2 in the order. By depressing a back space key 6, the printing tape retreats by one character. When a correction key 7 is depressed at a character to be erased, the character can be erased out. In the prior art, when a character to be erased is a voiced sound KANA character or semi-voiced sound KANA character, it is required to depress the key twice, resulting an retreating by five characters, and proceeding forward as far as the distance of retreating for further continuous printing. However in this invention, if the input key 1 for characters and symbols is depressed, it is stored in a RAM12. When a key 9 for voiced and semi-voiced sounds is depressed, it is identified by a discriminator 13.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent useless power consumption, by applying power to a circuit required for external communication via a connector connecting an external device such as an acoustic coupler to a main body, in a device having communicating function with an external device such as a conversation device. CONSTITUTION:When a power switch 3 for a conversation device is depressed, power is applied to a printer 10 and a CPU 11 and the key input from an input key 12 is sequentially printed on a print tape. When a connector 6-2 of an acoustic coupler 7 is connected to a connector 6-1 of a main body, the power supply is applied to a Vcc terminal of an UART 13 and a buffer amplifier 14 from a terminal P1 through terminals P1-1, P2-1 and P2, the data by the depression of the input key is printed and transmitted to a personnel at a remote location for conversation via the coupler 7 and a telephone line. When no coupler is used, since no power is applied to the UART 13 and the amplifier 14 by removing the connector, useless power consumption can be prevented.
