Abstract:
A dual component antiplaque oral composition having superior foaming properties in which a first component contains a cationic antibacterial agent and the second component contains an anionic surfactant normally incompatible with the cationic antibacterial agent, the first and second components are simultaneously combined for application to the teeth, the first and second components being physically segregated prior to use, the components when mixed upon application to teeth providing substantially unimpaired antiplaque effect with superior foaming properties.
Abstract:
An oral care composition having enhanced flavor release comprising an orally acceptable carrier containing a first flavor and a multilayer film for extended or delayed flavor release, the multilayer film including at least a center layer containing a second flavor, the center layer positioned between two outer surface layers, each surface layer including a release modulating agent, the first and second flavor being the same or different. The film is adapted to adhere to an oral cavity surface and the outer surface layers may comprise a mucoadhesive polymer, e.g. carboxy polymethylene, polycarbophil or polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and a film forming polymer, eg. hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC). Suitable release modulating agents include HPMC and polyvinyl acetate. The carrier may be a toothpaste or mouthwash.
Abstract:
A fluid dispensing oral care implement with fluid delivery system. The implement includes a storage member containing a fluid. A channel formed of one or more wicking or capillary members extends through at least a portion of the oral care implement to deliver fluid(s) through one or more fluid outlets via capillary action. In one embodiment, the fluid outlet is comprised of a wicking or capillary material and is disposed in the head of the implement. In some embodiments, the implement may include a valve and a specially configured storage cap. A variety of fluids can be administered for therapeutic, hygienic, and/or other benefits, such as fresh breath, tooth whitening, tooth sensitivity, plaque and/or tartar control, or producing sensations of heat, cool, or tingling.
Abstract:
Described herein are water- stable films for use in aqueous compositions comprising one or more cellulosic polymers present in an amount from about 10 to about 50% of the film's dry weight, polyvinyl acetate present in an amount from about 8 to about 25% of the film's dry weight and metal particles, compositions for oral cavity comprising the films, and methods of making and using the same
