Abstract: SYNTHESIS OF SILYL KETENE ACETAL FROM ALLYL 2-ORGANOACRYLATES A process is described for preparing silyl ketene acetals having the formula, (CH3)RC=C(OSiRi3)2 , from allyl 2-organoacrylates. The process comprises contacting an allyl 2-organoacrylate with a trisubstituted silane in the presence of a rhodium catalyst; and separating and isolating the silyl ketene acetal. Silyl ketene acetal of greater than 85-90 percent purity can be recovered.

Abstract: A process of curing and cross-linking methylhydrosiloxanes by contacting and forming a mixture of an allyl amide with at least one methylhydrosiloxane in the presence of a Group VIII metal catalyst and heating the mixture of the allyl amide, the methylhydrosiloxane and the Group VIII metal catalyst, in the presence of ambient moisture until the methylhydrosiloxane becomes cured and cross-linked.

Abstract: Modified silica fillers are prepared by a method in which silica surfaces are contacted with compositions containing organosilicon compounds. The organosilicon compounds in the compositions are only of types of structural groups of monomeric dichlorosilanes and trialkoxysilanes. The compositions may be (i) mixtures or blends of alkyl and aryl group containing dichlorosilanes and trialkoxysilanes free of hydrocarbon or organofunctional groups reactive with silica surfaces, (ii) mixtures or blends of substituted alkyl and substituted aryl group containing dichlorosilanes in which the dichlorosilanes are free of hydrocarbon or organofunctional groups reactive with silica surfaces and trialkoxysilanes free of hydrocarbon or organofunctional groups reactive with silica surfaces, or (iii) substituted and unsubstituted alkyl and aryl group containing dichlorosilanes in which the dichlorosilanes are free of hydrocarbon or organofunctional groups reactive with silica surfaces. The mixtures and blends contain the dichlorosilanes and trialkoxysilanes in a weight ratio of 1:0.1 to 1:2, respectively.

While dialkyldichlorosilanes and monoalkyltrichlorosilane such as dimethyldichlorosilane and methyltrichlorosilane, respectively, are most preferred, the blends or mixtures may also comprise compositions containing n-propyltrichlorosilane, phenyltrichlorosilane, cyanopropyltrichlorosilane, and mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane.
