Abstract: In embodiments of an imaging structure with embedded light sources, an imaging structure includes a silicon backplane with a driver pad array. The embedded light sources are formed on the driver pad array in an emitter material layer, and the embedded light sources can be individually controlled at the driver pad array to generate and emit light. A conductive material layer over the embedded light sources forms a p-n junction between the emitter material layer and the conductive material layer. Micro lens optics can be positioned over the conductive material layer to direct the light that is emitted from the embedded light sources. Further, the micro lens optics may be implemented as parabolic optics to concentrate the light that is emitted from the embedded light sources.

Abstract: A near-eye display system includes an image former and a waveguide. The image former is configured to form a display image and to release the display image through a first exit pupil. The waveguide presents a back surface that faces the wearer's eye, and a front surface opposite the back surface. The waveguide is substantially transparent to external imagery received normal to the front surface, and is configured to receive the display image from the image former and to release the display image through a second exit pupil, which is larger than the first exit pupil.

Abstract: In embodiments of a flexible display flexure assembly, a flexure assembly includes a structure of pivotable links that couples first and second housing parts of a foldable electronic device. The first housing part of the foldable electronic device includes a flexible display, and the first housing part is integrated with a first section of the flexible display. The second housing part of the foldable electronic device is integrated with a second section of the flexible display. The pivotable links are implemented to collapse relative to each other to form a bend radius of the flexible display and support the flexible display in a closed position of the foldable electronic device. The structure of the pivotable links is also implemented to support the flexible display in an open position of the foldable electronic device.

Abstract: In embodiments of active reflective surfaces, an imaging structure includes a circuit control layer that controls pixel activation to emit light. A reflective layer of the imaging structure reflects input light from an illumination source. An active color conversion material that is formed on the reflective layer converts the input light to the emitted light. The active color conversion material can be implemented as a phosphorus material or quantum dot material that converts the input light to the emitted light, and in embodiments, the active color conversion material is laminated directly on the reflective layer.

Abstract: Embodiments that relate to displaying an image via a display device worn on a head of a user are disclosed. In one example embodiment, an image is displayed at an initial registration position with respect to a user's eye. Composite motion data is received from one or more sensors, with the composite motion data comprising a head motion component and a relative motion component which is relative motion between the head and the display device. The composite motion data is filtered to remove the head motion component and yield the relative motion component. Using the relative motion component, the initial registration position of the image is adjusted to an adjusted registration position that compensates for the relative motion component. The image is then displayed at the adjusted registration position.

For example, one disclosed embodiment provides a near-eye display system may comprising a light source, a first polarizing beam splitting surface configured to receive light from the light source, a mirror configured to reflect light passed by the first polarizing beam splitting surface, and a quarter wave plate positioned between the first polarizing beam splitting surface and the mirror. The near-eye display system may further include a second polarizing beam splitting surface positioned at an angle relative to the first polarizing beam splitting surface and a microdisplay configured to produce an image via light received from the second polarizing beam splitting surface.

Abstract: Technology is disclosed for optimizing a near-eye display using a waveguide. A first waveband for a first color narrower than the full spectral bandwidth for the first color and a second waveband for a second color adjacent to the first color in the visible spectrum are generated in image light of an image generation unit like a microdisplay. The first waveband and the second waveband are coupled into a same layer of a diffractive waveguide. An input grating of the same layer of the waveguide has a grating wavelength band approximately matching a waveband extensive with the first waveband and the second waveband. A converted green light emitting diode (LED) may be used for obtaining a first waveband centered around 515 nm in some examples. One of more of the wavebands may be obtained using filters, for example filters using dichroic mirrors, quantum dots or a combination of these.

Abstract: A binocular head mounted display includes a first binocular eye piece including a first torsional brace and a second binocular eye piece including a second torsional brace configured to engage the first torsional brace. The binocular head mounted also includes a frame assembly holding the first binocular eye piece and the second binocular eye piece at an adjustable interpupillary distance. The frame assembly includes a torsional support to directly or indirectly engage the first torsional brace and the second torsional brace. Abstract: In embodiments of an extendable connecting link, a first link section attaches in a first housing part of a device and a second link section attaches in a second housing part of the device. The first and second link sections interlock and slide-engage relative to each other. An interconnection channel routes an electrical interconnection between the first housing part and the second housing part of the device, where the interconnection channel is formed when the first and second link sections are slide-engaged.
