Abstract: A mobile station is instructed to first transmit at relatively high sending power on a channel being assigned despite possible interference and is then instructed before a first time interval has elapsed to transmit at a more optimal power level to reduce interference. The power level on the channel is then periodically monitored at a second time interval greater than the first time interval. Momentarily increased interference is therefore tolerated in exchange for increased assurance of channel assignment. The interference is quickly reduced by implementing a fast power regulating function as compared to a slower ongoing channel power monitoring function.

Abstract: In a system in which each mobile station (M1-10) periodically scans the system paging channels for the strongest signal, each base station (B1-10) broadcasts a rescan command to those mobile stations operationally connected to it at predetermined intervals. Pages to be sent to the mobile stations are stored immediately following broadcast of the rescan message until such time as all mobile stations have had an adequate opportunity to carry out the rescanning operation. The incidence of calls lost due to pages being sent to a mobile station while it is rescanning is thereby reduced.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for achieving reliable transmission of signalling messages in a cellular system in which the frequency plan, frequency/time slot allocation plan, code channel allocation plan, or dynamic/adaptive channel allocation rule of the system is violated by allowing adjacent base stations to reuse particular frequencies/time slots/channels for signalling a particular mobile station. In situations where signalling messages, such as handoff commands, which are communicated between a base station and a mobile station are not properly received by the mobile station, an alternate communications channel will be established to ensure the reception of these messages. The alternate channel is provided by repeating the message through a channel associated with a base station which has better radio characteristics. The channel selected for transmission of the message by the new base station will be on the same frequency/time slot/code as used by the established connection.

The wireless device (110) sends, to the second network node (150), a request for setting up the EPS bearer for a service. The request is associated with a required level of a connectivity for the service. The required level relates to likelihood of maintaining the connectivity towards a first network node (140). The second network node (150) further receives the required level of the connectivity for the service. The second network node (150) sends, to a radio base station(120), a request for setting parameters of the S1 bearer or the Iu bearer.
