Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveform generating circuit capable of decreasing a ROM data quantity and generating complicated waveforms. SOLUTION: The waveform generating circuit provided with: a ROM 651 for storing waveform data related to a waveform and its production by each cycle comprising a plurality of clock periods; an address generating circuit 71 for sequentially generating an address signal used to sequentially read waveform data; and a waveform data output circuit 73 for sequentially reproducing the read waveform data into a waveform signal. The waveform data includes extension information and extension period information indicative of an extended period, and the extension period is a period being an integer multiple of a cycle. The waveform generating circuit includes further an extension decision and control circuit 72 that decides the presence / absence of the extension information from the read waveform data, controls the waveform data output circuit to maintain an output of a corresponding waveform signal and controls the address generating circuit to delay the production operation of the address signal when the waveform data includes the extension information. SOLUTION: When display data are displayed by performing write in discharge in a display cell selected from among plural display cells by either a first electrode or a second electrode and a third electrode and performing sustaining discharge by a pair of the first and the second electrodes, this device is provided with a counting means 7 for display data amount for every line for counting the amount of display data detected for every line, the counted result of the amount of display data by the counting means 7 for every line is compared with the counted result of a sustaining discharge control signal and a number of times of sustaining discharge is controlled for every line based on an enable signal generated at the time of coincidence of both counted results.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To miniaturize a power supply part by effectively controlling the frequency of data pulses impressed on each address electrode and actively controlling address currents flowing through plural lines of address electrodes. At this time, at the time of displaying a prescribed picture, when the address currents flowing through address electrodes 16 are detected always and the address currents exceed a predetermined and prescribed current, address currents are controlled to be lower than a constant value by lowering the frequency of the pixel display data impressed on respective electrodes 16.

The electrodes 61-67 and 71-77 of the panel 31 are connected to a scan side electrode drive circuit 14 or a sustain side electrode drive circuit 15 by using a printed wiring wiring board, a flexible wiring sheet 47, and the like.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To handle the period of an optional synchronizing signal. CONSTITUTION:The driving circuit of the gas discharge panel equipped with a storage means 1 stored with a pulse train signal prescribing a pulse train containing maintaining pulses, a readout start signal output means 2 which outputs a readout start signal once detecting prescribed level variation of the synchronizing signal, a pulse control signal output means 3 which reads the pulse train signal out of the storage means 1 and outputs it each time a readout start signal is generated, and a pulse selecting circuit 4 which inputs at least the pulse train signal and display data and outputs maintaining and extinction pulses for each discharge cell is equipped with a timing coincidence detecting means 5 which outputs a timing coincidence signal once detecting the readout start signal being generated during the continuation of the output of the maintaining pulses; in the pulse control signal output means 3 when the timing coincidence signal is generated, a different pulse train signal which prescribes the maintaining pulses generated at mutually different periods from the maintaining pulses prescribing said pulse train signal is outputted instead of the pulse train signal.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent crosstalk from being generated by bisecting drivers for scanning lines and drivers for address lines and supplying signals to the latter drivers through delay circuits and putting them in partial charge of a load. CONSTITUTION:The drivers 24 and 25 for the scanning lines are divided into 1st scanning line drivers 24a and 25a and 2nd scanning line drivers 24b and 25b and the drivers 22 and 23 for the address lines are divided into 1st address line drivers 22a and 23a and 2nd address line drivers 22b and 23b. Further, the 1st delay circuit 27 is provided between a timing generator 26 and the 2nd scanning line drivers 24b and 25b and the 2nd delay circuit 28 is provided between the timing generator 26 and the 2nd address line drivers 22b and 23b. The signals are supplied through the delay circuits 27 and 28 and the 2nd scanning line drivers 24b and 25b and 2nd address line drivers 22b and 23b are put in partial charge of the load.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make burning of a screen inconspicuous in displaying ordinary picture by discriminating the conditions of a picture to be displayed, choosing either the first or the second display means for the display depending on the result of the discrimination, and thereby dividing between a fixed picture that causes burning and other ordinary picture by means of an odd number/even number line display. SOLUTION: A discriminating means 310 discriminates the conditions of a picture to be displayed and causes a selector means 320 to select, depending on the result of the discrimination, the emission by odd number lines only (with even number lines turned off) or by even number lines only (with odd number lines turned off). To be concrete, if the picture to be displayed is a fixed picture (e.g. initial operation picture before the start of a prescribed operation), it is displayed as a picture on the odd number lines for example. If it is a picture other than the fixed picture (plural pictures specified by the initial operation picture), it is displayed as a picture on the even number lines.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the effects of flickering of first and last display lines following interface display so as to improve display quality by cutting off only a part of a light emitted to a display surface among the lights of the first and last display lines. SOLUTION: Black light shielding means 40 and 41 are provided only in X1 and Xn+1 electrodes in upper and lower ends of a transparent insulating layer 35 provided in the glass board of a display surface side. Discharging is performed only in an odd-number field on the X1 electrode and, on the Xn+1 electrode, discharging is performed only in an even-number field. Thus, respective discharge components are turned ON and OFF repeatedly to cause flickering. By cutting of the discharge components of the first and last display lines by the light shielding means 40 and 41, the occurrence of flickering is prevented and the feeling of the up-and-down movement of an entire screen is eliminated. The light shielding means 40 and 41 are installed in positions as close as possible to discharge spaces so as to cut off the discharge components irrespective of the angle of visibility.
