Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for electroerosively machining a desired contour in a workpiece with a wire electrode transported from a supply to a takeup and, in a path therebetween, supported by a pair of wire guide heads to tightly stretch the axially advancing wire electrode across the workpiece. On at least one side of the two opposite surfaces of the workpiece traversed by the wire electrode there is disposed a template blank secured to the workpiece and having a contour shaped to correspond to the desired contour to be machined in the workpiece for holding the axially advancing wire electrode on the surface of the template contour between the wire guide heads across the workpiece. At least one of the wire guide heads is movable and displaced to cause the machining wire electrode to move transversely to the axis thereof along the contour of the template block so that with the transverse movement of the wire electrode, the desired contour is progressively formed in the workpiece by electroerosion.
Abstract:
A burner system of the type in which a thermocouple or like EMF-generating sensor detects the presence of a pilot flame and controls a main fuel valve to hold the latter open as long as the pilot flame remains lit. According to the invention, the main valve is held open by a solenoid and a resistance is provided in circuit between the sensor and the solenoid to reduce the response time of the latter which results from the inductance contributed by the magnetic coil forming the solenoid.
Abstract:
A wire-cut electroerosion machine as well as a method of operating the same wherein a wire electrode is axially and continuously transported from supply means to take-up means to travel through a cutting zone between a pair of wire guide members in which a workpiece is positioned. The machine includes rotary traction means having a first rotary shaft for advancing the wire through the cutting zone from the supply means and permitting it to be collected by the take-up means, and rotary brake means having a second rotary shaft for applying a braking force to the wire to cause it to be stretched between the guide members while being continuously advanced through the cutting zone. The improvement includes means for and steps of: sensing the rotation of the first rotary shaft to produce a first sensing signal representing the rate of rotation thereof; sensing the rotation of the second rotary shaft to produce a second sensing signal representing the rate of rotation thereof; and deriving from the first and second sensing signals an output signal representing a deviation of tension of the wire traveling between a brake rotary means and the traction rotary means or the guide members from a predetermined value. The method and system for detecting a change in the wire tension may also embody means for applying a mechanical vibration to the wire traveling between the guide members and monitoring a vibrational response of the wire.
Abstract:
A magnetic separator has a filter mass to which a magnetic field of a high gradient applies to trip magnetically susceptible substances in a fluid stream traversing the mass. The change in inductance of the mass is measured during the filtration and the measurement triggers an operator-alert signal and/or a backwashing of the filter.
Abstract:
A method of producing electrochemical-abrasive machining tools in which the abrasive body, e.g. a wheel, is impregnated with a chemical plating solution from which a metal is deposited in the interstices of the tool between the abrasive grains. Instead of the usual practice of forcing the chemical plating solution through the tool continuously so that only part of the metal is depleted from the solution, the invention provides for forcing the solution into the interstices and retaining it there for a predetermined time sufficient, preferably, to chemically plate all of the metal from the solution onto the walls of the interstitial spaces of the tool.
Abstract:
The deflection of at least one arm of a traveling-wire EDM machine, whose arms are spanned by the wire, is detected and the resulting signal used to control the wire advance to maintain the deflection constant.

A rollable or plastically deformable Sendust-type magnetic alloy containing by weight 3 to 8% aluminum, 4 to 8% silicon, 0.1 to 2% niobium or tantalum or mixture thereof, 0.5 to 7% a mixture of vanadium and copper and the balance iron. The alloy is especially suitable for use with high-frequency inputs.

A power-producing system in which a turbine and generator are hermetically sealed in a housing which can be pressurized to regulate at optimum evaporation conditions of a low-boiling fluid which is circulated through the turbine in a closed cycle including the heat exchanger for vaporizing the fluid and utilizing low thermal power such as solar power, waste heat and terrestrial heat. The cycle also includes, where necessary, a pump which may be received in the hermetically sealed housing and a further heat exchanger acting as a condenser.
