Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical storage medium and an optical information device for recording and reproducing information with high reliability even in a case of using an optical storage medium whose jitter relating to the shortest mark and space is inferior to jitter relating to a mark and space which is longer than the shortest mark and space.SOLUTION: The optical information device includes: an optical pickup head for irradiating an optical storage medium with a light beam, and for receiving the light beam reflected from the optical storage medium, and for outputting a signal based on the received rays of light; a jitter measurement part for measuring the jitter of a signal to be output from the optical pickup head; and a determination part for determining whether or not the optical storage medium is non-defective or defective from the measured jitter. The jitter measurement part is configured to measure the jitter about a mark or space string which is 3T or more with respect to the optical storage medium in which digital information is recorded as a mark or space string which is kT long on the basis of an integer k which is 2 or more and a cycle T.
