Abstract: Techniques for paging user equipments (UEs) in a wireless communication system are described. In one aspect, a cell sends a paging indicator to a UE, monitors for an acknowledgement from the UE, and sends a page message to the UE if an acknowledgement is received from the UE. The cell may receive channel quality information from the UE and may send the page message with link adaptation and/or HARQ to improve performance. In another aspect, a cell sends a paging indicator on a shared control channel to a UE and sends a page message on a shared data channel to 10 the UE. The paging indicator and page message may be sent from multiple cells to the UE. Alternatively, the paging indicator may be sent from multiple cells to the UE, and the page message may be sent from a single cell to the UE. Start 1412 . FOR EXAMPLE, A SCHEDULER CAN SELECT BETWEEN CYCLIC FREQUENCY SHIFTING, TRANSPOSED FREQUENCY SHIFTING, AND MULTIPLEXING OF FREQUENCY SELECTIVE SCHEDULED AND FREQUENCY HOPPED DATA BASED ON AN AUDIT OF SCHEDULED DATA FOR THE TRANSMISSION ALLOCATION UNIT. AS A RESULT, THE REDUCTION IN INTERFERENCE ACHIEVED THROUGH FREQUENCY HOPPING CAN BE COMBINED WITH THE LOW PAPR FOR VARIOUS DATA ALLOCATION CONFIGURATIONS.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate selecting frequency for transmitting control channel format indicator (CCFI) data such to identify a related cell. In one example, the CCFI data can be transmitted in an initial portion of frequency (such as an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol) in a time transmit interval (TTI). The CCFI data can be spread across the initial portion of frequency and be shifted to identify the transmitting cell. Additionally, the CCFI data can be scrambled to further identify the cell. The CCFI data can also be utilized to determine structure of subsequent control and/or data channels.

Abstract: An inter-system handover system for a wireless communication system supports hand-down and hand-up of user equipment (UE) to different radio access technologies, including synchronous and asynchronous systems. Latency and handover connection failures are reduced by an access node (nodeB) broadcasting information about neighboring systems (targets) when the UE reception (RX) capability is both inside or outside the reception range of the target. A single RX chain is sufficient, although transitioning between a wireless wide area network (WWAN) to a wireless local area network may (WLAN) may advantageously benefit from simultaneous operation on two Rx chains. Optimized list of neighboring RAT systems (targets) are broadcast from the network, including measurement parameters and reporting instructions. Thereby, UE-driven reporting minimizes latencies. UE reports other-system searches to network only if needed for a handover. In addition, handover requests can be bundled with other-system measurement information, if necessary, for additional efficiencies.
