Abstract: A method for estimating a size of reverse link resources provided by a base-station transceiver system (BTS), including performing respective first, second, and third measurements of first, second, and third signal strengths received at the BTS. The method also includes comparing the first measurement with the second measurement so as to determine an initial minimum signal strength, and adding at a predetermined time an aging value to the initial minimum signal strength so as to form an updated minimum signal strength. The method further includes forming a comparison between the updated minimum signal strength and the third measurement, determining from the comparison a minimum of the updated minimum signal strength and the third measurement to be a minimum received signal strength, and determining the size of the reverse link resources provided by the BTS in response to the minimum received signal strength.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing on-going calibration of a communication system in which a master system unit is coupled to one or more remote units via a relatively long wireline. On the forward link, measurements are made of at the input to the master system unit and the output of each remote unit. On the reverse link, the input to the remote unit is and the output from the master unit is measured when there is a dominant signal applied to one of the remote units. These measurements are made for a controlled signal during an initialization process and during normal operation. A reference gain for the system is determined from the measurements made during initialization. The gain of the system during normal operation is then dynamically compared to the reference gain of the system. A control signal is generated based on the difference between the reference gain and the current gain under normal operation. The control signal is used to adjust the current gain to maintain a gain value that is within a predetermined range of the reference gain.

Abstract: A duplex radio transceiver, coupled to baseband circuitry and to an antenna, includes a receive chain, a transmit chain and a duplexer. The transmit chai n includes filter components that attenuate signals originating from the transmit chain in a receive frequency band by a stop-band attenuation that i s approximately equal to or greater than the stop-band attenuation of the duplexer in the receive band. Similarly, the receive chain includes filter components that attenuate signals in a transmit frequency band by a stop-ban d attenuation that is approximately equal to or greater than the stop-band attenuation of the duplexer in the transmit band. A bias control circuit senses a power level associated with radio signals in the transmit chain and adjusts an amplifier in the receive chain responsive to the power level.

Abstract: Repeater apparatus for conveying a radio-frequency (RF) signal into an environment closed-off to the RF signal, including a master transceiver unit having a master port which receives the RF signal, a local oscillator (LO), which generates a LO signal at a LO frequency, and a frequency divider which divides the LO frequency of the LO signal by an integer to produce a divided LO signal. The master transceiver unit also includes a master mixer coupled to the master port and the divider which generates an intermediate-frequency (IF) signal responsive to the RF signal and the LO signal.
