Abstract: PURPOSE:To exactly and easily regulate the track width formed on a substrate deposited and formed with magnetic alloy films to a desired value and further, specifying the thickness of the magnetic alloy films. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic gap surface 12 deposited and formed with ground surface films, the magnetic alloy layers and protective films are subjected to mirror finishing by grinding these surfaces to the prescribed amt. regulated by spacer layers 15. Namely, the grinding is executed until the spacer layers 15 formed on the magnetic gap surfaces 12 at both side edges on the substrate 11 are exactly exposed and, therefore, the protective films are completely removed by grinding at the magnetic gap surfaces 12 exclusive of the magnetic gap surfaces 12 at both side edges. The magnetic alloy layers are exactly ground to the prescribed thickness and prescribed track width Tr by the spacer layers 15.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent reaction between a metal magnetic film and welding glass and to obtain good accuracy of the track width and good accuracy of the gap length. CONSTITUTION:A pair of magnetic core halves 1, 2 with metal magnetic films 5, 6 formed on the bulting faces 3a, 4a of oxide magnetic material substrates 3, 4, respectively are integrally joined by interposing a magnetic gap g1 comprising a nonmagnetic layer between the butted faces. In this magnetic head, nonmagnetic layers such as gap films 15, 16 made of SiO2 are formed on the area 1a, 2a of core halves 1, 2 where the magnetic gap is formed, respectively. Further, nonmagnetic layers such as gap films 15, 16 made of SiO2 and reaction- preventing films 17, 18 made of Cu are laminated on other areas 1b, 2b, respectively, and the number of nonmagnetic layers in the areas 1a, 2a where the magnetic gap are formed is made smaller than that in other areas 1b, 2b.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the reproduced output of a magnetic head and the yield of production. CONSTITUTION:A pair of magnetic core half bodies 7, 8 formed by holding laminated magnetic films 1, 2 with a pair of substrates 3, 5 and 4, 6 consisting of magnetic ferrite materials from a film thickness direction are joined and integrated in such a manner that these laminated magnetic films 1, 2 are butted against each other, by which a front gap g1 and a back gap are formed between the butt front surfaces of the laminated magnetic films 1, 2. First fusing glass 9 is fused and packed into the front gap side of track width regulating grooves 15a, 15b, 16a, 16b which are so disposed as to partly notch the substrates 3, 4, 5, 6 and the laminated magnetic films 1, 2 and regulate the track width of the magnetic gaps and second fusing glass 10 having the m.p. lower than the m.p. of first fusing glass is fused and packed into the back gap side thereof. The viscosity eta1 of the first fusing glass at the time of the fusing and packing may be specified to 10 Pa.s Pa.s Pa.s.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration in the magnetic characteristics of magnetic metallic films by integrating and joining the sliding contact parts and back parts of first substrates by a low-temp. thermal diffusion metal joining method. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic head consists of a pair of magnetic core half bodies 7, 8 constituted by holding the magnetic metallic films 1, 2 by the first substrates 3, 4 and second substrates 5, 6 from their film thickness direction. These half bodies 7, 8 are formed by butting the end faces of the magnetic metallic films 1, 2 against each other and joining and integrating these ends by fusing glass 9. The first substrates 3, 4 and the second substrates 5, 6 are joined and integrated via ground surface films 16a, 16b consisting of Cr by glass films 18, 19 formed by sputtering low melting glass as the joint parts are shown in magnification in fig. Laminated films of SiO2, etc., are used for the ground surface films 16a, 16b and 17a, 17b in order to prevent the reaction of the magnetic metallic thin films 1b, 2b or ferrite (the back parts 3b, 4b of the first substrates 3, 4) and the glass films 18, 19.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of a substrate to a glass bonding film or the adhesion of the glass bonding film to a metallic magnetic film and to enhance the yield and reliability of magnetic heads. CONSTITUTION:A metallic magnetic film 3 is held between a pair of substrates 1A, 1B in the thickness direction and they are bonded and integrated with a glass bonding film 7 to obtain a magnetic core half 20A and 20B. A pair of such magnetic core halves 20A, 20B are butted so that edges of the metallic magnetic films 3 confront each other and a magnetic gap (g) is formed between the butted faces. A boundary film 8 of a material having a higher m.p. than the material of the glass bonding film 7 is interposed between the substrate 1B and the glass bonding film 7. The substrate may be made of ferrite.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide secure joining with high reliability by adopting low-temp. metal joining for the butt joining between both core half bodies. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic metallic films 2 are deposited and formed on at least either of substrates 3 and 4 and the two substrates 3 and 4 hold the magnetic metallic films 2 and are joined by high melting glass 5. The substrates 3 and 4 consist of core half bodies 1A and 1B. The core half bodies 1A and 1B are subjected to low-temp. metal joining by disposing the end faces of the magnetic metallic films 2 opposite to each other so as to form a working magnetic gap g between both end faces. Reinforcing bodies 11 are subjected to low-temp. metal joining 10 across the two substrates 3 and 4 on the outer flanks 15A and 15B on the side opposite form the surfaces of the core half bodies 1A and 1B formed with the working magnetic gap g. As a result, the influence on the joining of the high melting glass 5 is averted at the time of joining the core half bodies 1A and 1B to each other. In addition, the core half bodies are more securely joined by the joining of the reinforcing bodies 11, by which the generation of peeling or shifting between the substrates 3 and 4 is obviated.

SOLUTION: In the magnetic head, a pair of the half bodys of magnetic cores (3) and (4) comprising nonmagnetic substrates 11 and magnetic metal layers 13 formed on the substrates 11 near the surfaces rubbing against a recording medium are connected to each other to form a magnetic gap (g) with the magnetic metal layers 13, and a magnetic path is composed of a thin film coil formed on the connection surface of at least one of the half bodys of magnetic cores (3) and (4). The nonmagnetic substrates 1 exposed on the connection surfaces are placed inside the innermost circumference of the thin film coil 6.
