Abstract: 1,217,984. Colour television camera. SONY CORP. 14 Feb., 1969 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 8221/69. Heading H4F. Image light is projected via a striped colour filter 6, Fig. 3, comprising a repeating sequence of red, green, blue and opaque index filter strips, Fig. 4 (not shown), on to a pick-up tube 3 e.g. a vidicon tube, and the resulting output signal is gated 17, 18 using pulses derived from the index strips to produce red, green and blue primary narrow-band colour signals R s , G s and B s which are fed to a compensating circuit 21. Signals R s , G s and B s are also added in circuit 20 to produce a composite signal M s which is fed together with the output of a low-pass filter 22 which comprises M o = R o + Go + B o to a compensating circuit 21 in which the signals B s , G s and B s are respectively multiplied by the ratio M o /M s to derive wide-band colour video signals R, G and B. In a further embodiment, Fig. 1, the image light is projected via dichroic mirror 10 which passes red and blue light and a striped colour filter 6 comprising a repeating sequence of red, blue and opaque index filter strips on to a first pick-up tube 3, and via the dichroic mirror which reflects only green light on to a second pick-up tube 14. From the output signal of tube 3 red and blue primary colour signals R s and B s , a composite signal M s = R s + B s and a low-frequency component signal Mo = R 0 + B o are derived as in Fig. 3 and fed to a compensating circuit 21 in which the signals R s and B s are multiplied by the ratio Mo/Ms to form wide band colour signals R and B. The output of tube 14 is used for generating a luminance signal, and is applied to a low-pass filter 24 and a high-pass filter 25. The output Go of filter 24 is added to M o in circuit 26 to produce signal Y o which is fed to matrix 27, to form colour difference signals R-Y o and B-Y o , and to an adder 28 wherein it is added to the output of filter 25 to form the luminance signal Y. The primary colour signals R s , G s and B s may be derived by synchronous detection, the frequency of the respective colour carriers being the same or different, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). A lens screen comprising a plurality of cylindrical lenses may be disposed adjacent the pick-up tube, an image of the striped colour filter being formed on the photo-conductive layer of the tube by each cylindrical lens, Fig. 8 (not shown).

Abstract: A display panel formed by arranging a plurality of picture cells in a XY matrix form. In each picture cell, a plurality ofstripe-shapedself luminous pixel elements are formed on a display screen of a tube envelope in a predetermined pitch so that their longitudinal directions are directed in the horizontal direction of the display screen. Thus, a large screen display apparatus can be made, in which a bonded portion between adjacent picture cells can be made inconspicuous. Also, a range of visual field relative to a predetermined distance from the display screen can be enlarged and the function of large screen can be sufficiently demonstrated. A cathode ray tube is also provided, in which a stepped portion is provided on the peripheral edge portion of a flat panel having a fluorescent screen formed on its inner surface, and a funnel portion is bonded to this stepped portion. Therefore, strength and dielectric strength of a tube envelope can be increased, and a visual field of picture screen can be enlarged. Further, in this cathode ray tube, the thickness of the funnel at its portion where the funnel and the panel are bonded is reduced, whereby the screen side wall portion of the tube envelope can be reduced in thickness. Furthermore, in a large screen display apparatus in which the above cathode ray tubes are arranged in a XY matrix-fashion, the stepped portion of the peripheral edge portion of the flat panel is provided outside of a line connecting the fluorescent element adjacent to the stepped portion and the end portion of the flat panel. Thus, the bonded portion can be made inconspicuous and an image of high quality and a wide visual field can be obtained.

Abstract: An image display apparatus includes a phosphor screen which is divided into a plurality of phosphor screen portions arranged in both horizontal and vertical directions, a set of an electron gun and horizontal and vertical deflection devices provided in opposed relation to each of the divided phosphor screen portions, the electron gun being formed integrally of a common metal plate at plural divided phosphor screen portions at least adjacent in both horizontal and vertical directions, a circuit for driving the deflecting devices at the same time over all the surface of the phosphor screen, a circuit for the vertical deflection device at a horizontal period in a step, a device for memorizing at least one period of a video signal, and a circuit for dividing the video signal in accordance with the division in the horizontal direction, reading out divided video signals separately and simultaneously and supplying read-out video signals to the electron guns arranged on one line in the horizontal direction, wherein the phosphor screen is formed of red, green and blue color phosphor stripes and a black guard band, which are repeated arranged with a predetermined pitch, the guard band being located at a position coincident with the divided position of the phosphor screen in the horizontal direction.
