    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title composite material having excellent strength, elasticity and toughness by using hybrid fibers containing inorganic fibers obtained from specific polycyclic aromatic polymers as reinforcing materials and constituting matrix from a specific inorganic substance. CONSTITUTION:(A) An inorganic fiber which is obtained from a silicon- containing polycyclic aromatic polymer and comprise a carbonaceous material in a crystal arranged state, crystalline carbon in a non-orientated state and a Si-C-O substance, (B) an inorganic fiber which is obtained from a metal- containing polycyclic aromatic polymer and comprise a carbonaceous material in a crystal arranged state, crystalline carbon in a non-orientated state and a Si-M-C-O substance (M is Ti, Zr or Hf) and (C) carbon fiber, glass fiber, boron fiber, etc., are prepared. Hybrid fibers containing at least one of the component A and the component B and comprising at least two selected from the component A, the component B and the component C are produced. Then the hybrid fibers are used as a reinforcing material and a carbonaceous inorganic substance having the same composition as that of the component B is utilized as matrix to give the title carbonaceous composite material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title composite material having excellent heat resistance and oxidation resistance by using an inorganic fiber obtained from a metal- containing polycyclic aromatic polymer, comprising the fiber in matrix having the same composition as the fiber and increasing silicon content with far from the surface of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:An inorganic fiber which is obtained from a metal-containing polycyclic aromatic polymer, comprise constituent components consisting of a carbonaceous material in a crystal arranged state of radial structure derived from a polycyclic aromatic compound, crystalline carbon and (or) amorphous carbon in a non-orientated state and a Si-M-C-O substance (M is Ti, Zr or Hf) is prepared. On the other hand, an inorganic substance which is obtained from a metal-containing polycyclic aromatic polymer and comprises the same constituent components as that of the inorganic fiber is prepared. The inorganic substance is used as matrix, the inorganic fiber is utilized as a reinforcing material and the matrix texture is controlled to have gradient texture of increasing silicon content with separation from the surface of the inorganic fiber to produce a heat-resistant fiber reinforced inorganic composite material.

CONSTITUTION:An organosilicon polymer having a ratio of the total number of the combined units Si-CH2 to the total number of the bonding units Si-Si in the range of 1:(0-20) and having a substituent such as H, a lower alkyl, a phenyl or a silyl as a side chain of the silicon atom is prepared.
