Abstract:
A filter assembly including a housing with a plurality of individual filter units circumferentially arranged within the housing. The housing is compartmented to channel a contaminated fluid to be filtered in a filtering direction through the filter units, from one end thereof to the other. A rotatable, conduit-like backwash arm is disposed in at least one end of the housing for sealed engagement with the contaminated fluid inlet, end of a filter unit and for receiving a backwashing fluid flow therefrom. A rotatable discharge pipe connects to the outlet end of the arm and extends from the housing through a rotary-axial bearing and seal unit thereon, and is coaxially arranged with respect to the circumferential array of filter units. A rotation indexing unit adjacent the housing engages the discharge pipe for angularly shifting said backwash arm from filter unit to filter unit and thereby for backwashing of said filter units in a desired sequence. An axial shift unit engages the discharge pipe for axially shifting the backwash arm away from the filter units preparatory to each angular shift, and for axially shifting the backwash arm into sealed engagement with a new filter unit following such an angular shift. A control coordinates actuation of the rotational indexing unit and axial shift unit for sequentially backwashing filter units of the array. In a modification, a rotatable backwash arm is provided at each end of the array of filter units, movement of the arms being synchronized and the arms being axially opposed for sequentially backwashing the filter unit with a backwashing fluid other than the filtered fluid. In a further modification, the axial shift unit comprises a camming device directly responsive to rotation of the discharge pipe for carrying out the axial shifting of the backwash arm.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method and apparatus for removing suspended solids from liquids. In carrying out the method, a liquid containing suspended solids is delivered to a screen with a directional component across the screen surface and a directional component through the screen. The screen has openings that are large enough to pass a majority of the suspended solids, and the screen has the ability to hold a layer of the solids on the upstream side thereof. The flow of the liquid is controlled so that the coating is formed and maintained on the screen, and serves as a filtration medium. The invention also provides improved apparatus which comprises means defining a liquid filtration zone having a screen separating it into influent and effluent zones. The screen has openings large enough to pass the majority of suspended solids and has the ability to hold a layer of the solids on the upstream side. Means are provided for delivering liquids and suspended solids to the screen with a directional component parallel to the face of the screen and a directional component through the screen.

Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
A filtration vessel is provided with improved sealing surfaces and alignment methods. The sealing surface is provided by a perforated sleeve within the filtration vessel. An alignment mechanism is provided which allows for improved servicing of the filtration vessel.
Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a screen unit which allows for eliminating rigorous dimension control for preventing the short path phenomenon of material and which has cost advantages, and a screen changer equipped with the same. In the screen unit, a cartridge body (30) includes a hole-formed portion (15) having a plurality of through holes (12) through which the material filtered by a screen pack (14) is allowed to pass; and a contacted outer surface (21) which is provided closer to a base end side than to the hole-formed portion (15) and inclined so as to expand radially outwardly with decreasing distance to the base end. The screen pack (14) has a contacting inner surface (22) which can closely contact with the contacted outer surface (21) of a cartridge (13) when being pressed from a tip end side toward the base end with the hole-formed portion (15) covered from outside.
Abstract:
A filter assembly comprises a filter (10) defining path for fluid passing to or from the filter (10). An adaptor (11) is connected to the filter (10) and provides a continuation of the path. The adaptor (11) is for mounting the filter (10) on a mounting plate (12) and carries one or more sealing rings (30, 37) that are engageable with the mounting plate (12). The adaptor (11) is made from a plastics material and one surface of the adaptor (11) is reinforced by contact with an annular reinforcing member (31) which may be of metal, particularly steel. This allows the flow path provided by the adaptor (11) to be maximized.
