Abstract: The aim of the invention is to improve the backwashing action of a backwashable filter for liquids comprising the following: a filter body which is located in a housing and which separates an incoming flow chamber from an outgoing flow chamber and a backwashing channel which lies adjacent to the filter body, is situated in the outgoing flow chamber and has a backwashing opening that faces towards the filter body, said backwashing channel also communicating with a source of a cleaning medium and said cleaning medium being subjected to pressure in the backwashing channel, and the filter body and the backwashing channel being moveable in relation to each other. To this end, the filter body has links on a side facing towards the backwashing channel which are set apart from each other in the direction of motion. Adjacent links form a separately backwashable segment respectively and when a segment is backwashed, the corresponding links lie sealingly against the backwashing channel with sealing surfaces and expose the backwashing opening. Each sealing surface extends further than the backwashing opening in the direction of motion, so that each link can tightly seal the backwashing opening with its sealing surface.

Abstract: There is provided a fluid filter system cleanable by suction. The sustem comprises a filter element fixedly attached to a substantially rigid filter-element support mounted in a filter housing and provided with a plurality of openings, at least one suction nozzle having an inlet opening located in close proximity to the filter element and adapted to move with its inlet opening past the filter element in such a way as to cover in succession, at least some zones of the filter element while producing a suction flow. The invention further comprises guide means for guiding a fluid stream from the high-pressure raw-fluid space of the filter housing a low-pressure zone created by the suction nozzle between the inlet opening thereof and that portion of the filter-element support which faces the suction nozzle.

Abstract: A capture unit for use with an antimicrobial application unit may include an upstream filter and a downstream filter. The upstream filter may be positioned to receive effluent from the application unit and to filter solid components from the effluent. The resultant upstream effluent filtrate may then be passed downstream to the downstream filter. The downstream filter may be used to filter an antimicrobial component from the upstream effluent filtrate and the resultant downstream effluent filtrate may be suitable for disposal as wastewater discharge. Abstract: To reduce the size, scale of construction, and running cost of an apparatus for cleaning a sand filtration layer. A cleaning system which removes clogging sediments from a sand filtration layer 2, used with an apparatus for an infiltration intake of seawater which performs a seawater intake, by means of a water intake pipe 4 buried in the supporting gravel layer 3, after the seawater has been infiltrated through the sand filtration layer 2 and a supporting gravel layer 3 on an ocean floor. This cleaning system is provided with a diffuser pipe 7 having blow holes 6, and which is buried in the supporting gravel layer 3, as well as a compressed air delivery device 8 for feeding an air into the diffuser pipe 7. The system operates by blowing the air from the blow holes 6 to agitate the filtration sand of the sand filtration layer 2, to remove the sediments which have become trapped in or accumulated on the sand filtration layer 2. The system can achieve a smaller size, a smaller scale of construction, and a lower running cost than a conventional system which injects fresh water or seawater into the sand filtration layer.
