Abstract: An improved mixing passage in a foam fire fighting nozzle, the nozzle having a barrel with a first inlet to receive liquid under pressure and a second inlet to receive additive fluid and having a discharge end for discharging liquid and additive fluid. The additive fluid is communicated from the second inlet to the barrel discharge through a channel and a baffle is structured with said channel to provide a flow path for additive fluid through the baffle. The baffle cooperates with barrel wall portions to shape a relatively smooth annular liquid stream having a cross sectional area that diminishes to a minimum proximate the nozzle discharge. A mixing plate is affixed to the nozzle downstream of the baffle, the mixing plate being adapted together with the baffle to define a mixing passage in which additive distributes itself around 360.degree. and exits into a portion of the shaped liquid stream at the point of minimum cross sectional area. The improved mixing passage is accomplished by further configuring the mixing plate with at least portions of a peripheral upstream facing side outwardly angled to at least partially deflect discharging fluid in a radially outward and downstream direction.

Abstract: The atomizer nozzle exhibits an internal chamber (1) and an external chamber (2) which surrounds the latter in the form of a jacket, which chambers are provided with several outlet openings (9, 10 and 11, 12) which are in alignment in each case. A proportion of the atomizer air supplied via an air duct (5) flows into the internal chamber (1) and is essentially used there for uniformly distributing a liquid fuel, which is also flowing into the internal chamber (1) from a fuel duct (3), to its outlet openings (9, 10). The remaining greater proportion of the atomizer air flows around the internal chamber (1) through the external chamber (2) and is concentrically mixed in with the coarsely atomized fuel emerging from the outlet openings (9, 10) of the internal chamber (1). This prevents liquid fuel fragments from coming into contact with the walls of the outlet openings (11, 12) of the external chamber (2), and a high atomization quality is achieved.

Abstract: Apparatus for spraying powdered materials. A spray gun for applying hot powdered thermoplastic materials to a substrate to be coated may be constructed in such a fashion as to have no moving parts. A first fluid amplifier section inspirates the powdered material and cool air from the outside atmosphere. A second fluid amplifier section also inspirates outside air. This air is heated as it is inspirated. A transition section connects the two fluid amplifier sections. The powdered material inspirated by the first fluid amplifier section mixes with the heated air inspirated by the second fluid amplifier section. This causes partial melting of the powdered material so that as it exits from the second fluid amplifier toward the substrate to be coated, the material is in a condition to allow more uniform coating of the substrate.

Abstract: A valve assembly including a housing with an internally projecting lip that seals against an outer surface of a valve stem inserted through it. A gas inlet is provided above the lip and a liquid inlet is provided below the lip. The lip thus ensures that a gas flow path and a liquid flow path are kept separate until the valve stem is moved to an open position, at which point a liquid inlet hole in the stem is brought into communication with the liquid inlet in the housing and a gas inlet hole in the stem is brought into communication with the gas inlet in the housing for the fluids mix in an outlet conduit in the stem. The arrangement means that there is no contact between the liquid and a sealing gasket, thereby avoiding swelling of the gasket that can cause the stem to stick.
