The present invention is directed to a squeegee apparatus which includes a main housing including an inlet end and an outlet end, the outlet end including an extrusion face and a protruding lip member, the inlet end including an inlet opening and the extrusion face including at least one outlet opening, wherein the inlet opening and the at least one outlet opening are in fluid communication with each other within the main housing. The present invention is also directed to a method for repairing a thermal barrier coating with a squeegee apparatus including supplying a repair composition into the inlet opening of the squeegee apparatus and depositing the repair composition from the at least one outlet opening onto the damaged region and concurrently traversing the squeegee apparatus over the damaged region while contacting a thermal barrier coating adjacent to the damaged region with the lip member.

Disclosed is a method for producing a coated substrate using a compact, easy to handle and automated coating apparatus that can prepare coated composite in a single batch process, with sufficient control over each portion of the coating apparatus. The coating apparatus may include a coating unit, a drying unit and a pressing unit sequentially arranged in a single line to produce the coated substrate.

A blade shaped tool belonging to that type of tools which comprises doctor blades and coater blades, which have a strip-shaped body of steel which is cold-rolled, hardened and tempered to a hardness between 500 and 700 HV. At least the two wide sides of the body are covered by a hard surface layer (6a,6b) provided through Plasma Immersion Ion Implantation of hard reaction products of type carbides, nitrides and/or oxides. The tool has in comparison with conventional tools of corresponding steel grades an improved bending resistance and in the working edge portion of the tool also a significantly higher resistance to wear.

An electrode mixture paste (5) is applied on both sides of a strip of core material (1) made of porous metal sheet that is running along its lengthwise direction. The paste-coated core material (1) is pressed with press rollers (15a, 15b) alternately from opposite sides once or more, after which the paste-coated core material (1) is passed through the gap between a pair of scraper tools (16a, 16b) to adjust the coating thickness of the paste (5), while the position of the core material (1) is restricted with comb-shaped projections (17a or 17a, 17b), so that, even though the projections (17a, 17b) are distanced from each other sufficiently to allow weld points of the core material (1) to pass through, the coating thickness is precisely regulated. Therefore, a method of applying an electrode mixture paste is realized, with which coating thickness is precisely adjusted and, even in a continuous production process in which core materials are connected together by welding, production failures due to weld points being stuck are prevented.

Improved coating blades are disclosed, as well as processes for manufacturing such blades. The inventive blades have an intermediate edge deposit effective to reduce heat transfer from a wear resistant top deposit to the blade substrate. In one embodiment, the intermediate layer is comprised of NiCr, possibly with embedded oxide particles. Suitably, the intermediate layer and the top deposit are applied by an HVOF process. It is also envisaged that the intermediate layer may be deposited by plasma spraying. The intermediate layer may comprise stabilized zirconia.
