PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding method with which welding defects can be prevented and with which metal plates can be suitably welded together when a pair of metal plates is welded together using a bobbin tool.SOLUTION: A rotary tool unit 2 includes a bobbin tool 5 formed with a first shoulder 11, a second shoulder 12, and a pin 13 formed between the first shoulder 11 and the second shoulder 12. The rotary tool unit includes: a cylindrical holder 3 affixed to a chuck part 1a of a friction stir device 1; a slide shaft 4 that penetrates to the interior of the holder 3 and rotates integrally with the holder 3; the bobbin tool 5, the first shoulder 11 of which is affixed to the tip of the slide shaft 4; and a slide means 6 formed between the holder 3 and the slide shaft 4 such that the slide shaft 4 slides in the axial direction with respect to the holder 3.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling plate that improves cooling efficiency and attains weight reduction, that has high corrosion resistance and increases work efficiency, and that is configured to reduce manufacturing cost, and also to provide a method of manufacturing the cooling plate. SOLUTION: There is provided a method of manufacturing a cooling plate that comprises: a cooling plate body 2; a groove 3 which is opened and formed on the surface 2a of the cooling plate body 2; a lid member 4 which is arranged so as to block the opening of the groove 3 and which is joined to the cooling plate body 2 by friction stir welding; and a cooling medium passage 1 which has a cross section defined by the groove 3 and the entire rear face 4c of the lid member 4. The method includes: a step of fitting the lid member 4 to the groove 3 and of temporarily attaching the lid member 4 to the cooling plate body 2; and a step of performing the friction stir welding by arranging, after the temporary attaching of the lid member, a revolving center 6a of the friction stir welding tool 6 at a position away by a distance d outward in the width direction from the fitting position between the lid member 4 and the groove 3. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems associated with formation of stir-welded T-joints between thin walled ribs and skin sheets. SOLUTION: A method for stir-welding T-joints comprises a step of assembling first and second members (20, 22) and a step of stir-welding them. The first member has a sheet portion (24) of material and the second member has a sheet portion (40) of material and a rib (38) provided on the sheet portion. One of the first member and second member has a tooling portion surrounding the sheet portion of the member. The rib is stir-welded to the sheet portion of the first member in such a state that an edge margin (54) of the rib is positioned between restraining surfaces (37) of the first member. The first and second members are secured to a stir-welding apparatus via the tooling portion while the stir-welding is performed.
