Abstract:
An adhesive application apparatus sets a dot pattern such that an amount of paste applied to an area on the reverse side of an area on which an image is formed and an amount of paste applied to an area on the reverse side of an area on which the image is not formed are different from each other, and controls a paste discharge head so that the dot pattern having been set is formed on an adhesion surface of paper. Through this, the amount of paste applied to paper can be changed between an area where an image is formed and an area where the image is not formed, thereby making it possible to apply the paste to paper more appropriately in accordance with the state of image formation.
Abstract:
A paste formation pattern for odd numbers on which dot groups are arranged in an island form and a paste formation pattern for even numbers on which dot groups are arranged at opposing positions to the dot groups on the paste formation pattern for odd numbers in an island form are set. Further, a paste discharge head is controlled such that the set paste formation pattern for odd numbers is formed on an adhesion surface of an odd-numbered sheet of paper and the discharge head is controlled such that the set paste formation pattern for even numbers is formed on an adhesion surface of an even-numbered sheet of paper.
Abstract:
A lay-flay book block having a lay-flat pre-converted print stock and a method of making a lay-flat book block are provided. The lay-flat book block includes a stack of pages, a cohesive and a graphic, text or image. Each page includes two sheets of the lay-flat pre-converted print stock that are folded along a centerline which divides the sheet into a first leaf and a second leaf. The fold along the centerline forms a spine. The spines on the plurality of sheets are disposed adjacent one another. The cohesive is configured to be dry during printing and adhere in response to pressure. The cohesive is disposed on a first cohesive face of the first leaf and a second cohesive face of the second leaf. The first cohesive face of one of the sheets is mated and adhered with the second cohesive face of another sheet. The graphic, text or image is printed on the first and second leaves and expands across the centerline.
Abstract:
A press specially adapted to compress a stack which includes one or more pressure sensitive based fastening layers which are actuated by application of substantial pressure. A lower press plate includes a receiving surface upon which the stack is positioned and first and second guide members, with the receiving surface being tilted with respect to a level plane such that the stack tends to move on the receiving surface towards the two guide members. An upper press plate is provided which includes a compressing surface which is substantially parallel with respect to the receiving surface when the press is in a first operating mode. A drive mechanism is provided for driving the lower and upper press plates towards one another so as to applying a compressing force to the stack.
Abstract:
A machine and method are provided for making a lay-flat book or album with multiple pages. The machine includes a base with first and second supports. Paper forming the book pages is creased and placed front face down upon the supports and held in position by a vacuum. An adhesive is applied to the back of one page, and then the supports pressed together to adhere the pages together. Hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders move the supports, as controlled by electrical or electronic circuitry in a control panel. Thus, a semi-automatic process is provided for gluing the book pages together.
Abstract:
A carrier assembly for use in binding a plurality of display sheets such as photographs and including a first and second carrier sheet arrangements, with each arrangement including a pair of carrier sheets separated by a fold, with the carrier sheets each having generally the same dimensions as the display sheets to be bound. The interior surfaces of the four sheets are covered by a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive, with each layer of adhesive being covered by a release liner and with an exterior surface of the two carrier sheet arrangements being secured together form a basic unitary structure that can be expanded upon. Four display sheets to be bound can then be positioned within the arrangements and over the respective release liners so that the liners can then be successively removed for accurate display sheet positioning.

With the stack positioned so that first and second edges of the stack are resting against the respective first and second guide members, a user can assemble and manipulate the stack with the guide members maintaining the stack components in a proper alignment relative to one another. The press includes an upper press plate, with the lower and upper press plates being moveable with respect to one another, with the upper press plate including a compressing surface which is substantially parallel with respect to the receiving surface when the press is in a first operating mode. A drive mechanism is provided for driving the lower and upper press plates towards one another so as to applying a compressing force to the stack and to remove the stack from the receiving surface.
Abstract:
An album (10) for photographs and similar collectible items comprising a cover (1) in which at least one window (2) is formed for display of a photograph or other flat object. The window is formed by a window frame mounting base (102) having an L-shaped cross sectional profile and a window frame cover (101) having an L-shaped cross-sectional profile.
Abstract:
A photo/photo cartridge delivery/storage packet for the products of Advanced Photo Systems (APS) processing, comprising a first and second sheet-like cover members disposed in spaced, substantially parallel planes and each having a spine-adjacent edge, a sheet-like spine interconnecting the cover members along said spine-adjacent edges, a plurality of sheet-like photos interposed between the cover members and removably/replaceably secured to the spine by adhesive, and a means on the second cover member for securing thereto the APS photo cartridge associated with said photos. In the most preferred embodiment, the free edge of the second cover member of the packet extends past the free edge of the first cover member thereby forming a cover extension. The APS photo cartridge can be secured to either surface of the second cover member in a variety of ways that allow the cartridge to remain on the cover or be removed for storage elsewhere while the cover extension is used as a locking flap.
