A backing washer for a door handle is disposed for positioning between a so-called rosette and a door. The backing washer is provided with holes for the fixing means of the rosette, a flange and guide means disposed on the flange. The flange extends radially downwards and is intended to be clamped fast between the door and an outer edge of the rosette. The guide means guide the backing washer interiorly in the rosette and include a series of heels which are mutually at least pairwise interconnected by a rigidifying wall which extends between them.

Characteristics of the proposed solution: the seal unit comprises at lease one strand-shaped, in particular ring-shaped sealing element (10, 20) which can be inserted between the covering and the wall and consists at least in part of a soft elastic and/or soft plastic elastomer or appropriate elastomer mixture with a permanent set of at least approximately 2 % and in particular at least approximately 5 %.

A valve assembly includes an escutcheon that is secured to a valve housing by a threaded adapter. Thus, no screws need extend through the escutcheon, resulting in a more visually pleasing outer appearance. Further, a trim sleeve may be inserted into the escutcheon adapter to turn the escutcheon adapter relative to the valve housing and adjust the position of the escutcheon tightly against the wall. The present invention thus provides an escutcheon which need not have any screws to secure it to the fixed structure, but which is securely held to the valve housing.
