Abstract:
A system, mobile fax terminal, and method for providing fax service for mobile networks. A fax adapter receives fax data from a fax machine via standard fax protocols, maps the fax data onto Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or User Datagram Protocol (UDP) packets, and sends the mapped data over an Internet Protocol (IP)-based interface to a mobile phone portion. The mobile phone portion maps the TCP or UDP packets onto Radio Link Protocol (RLP) frames, and transmits the RLP frames to an external radio telecommunication network.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of transitioning from a facsimile session to a voice session during a call between a wireless user and a facsimile machine. The method comprises sending a procedure interrupt request, sending a procedure interrupt response, sending a procedure interrupt confirmation, negotiating to a voice service option, and then beginning the voice service option.
Abstract:
An imaging apparatus and an imaging method supply an optimum amount of image data to another apparatus. When a PDA has a maximum transfer rate of 1.5 Mbps, a mobile phone determines that the maximum speed of communication with the PDA is low, reduces the amount of moving image data captured by a CCD of the mobile phone accordingly, and supplies the captured moving image data to the PDA. The PDA therefore displays a low-quality moving image on its display unit. When the PDA has a maximum transfer rate of 480 Mbps, the CPU of the mobile phone leaves unchanged the amount of moving picture data captured by the CCD and supplies the captured moving image data to the PDA. The PDA then displays a high-quality moving image on its display unit. The foregoing may be advantageously applied to digital cameras.
Abstract:
In a facsimile system including a gateway apparatus and a transmission-side facsimile apparatus capable of performing facsimile communication via the gateway apparatus, the transmission-side facsimile apparatus codes image data, and packetizes the coded image data so that one line is included in one packet, and transmits the packetized image data to the gateway apparatus. The gateway apparatus receives a packet transmitted from the transmission-side facsimile apparatus, inserts predetermined data into image data included in the received packet, and transmits the image data into which the predetermined data has been inserted, to a receiving-side facsimile apparatus.
Abstract:
Described embodiments provide an IP-aware modem, such as for use in an IP-aware facsimile machine, operable with an IP packet network. The IP-aware modem has voice-band data engine that receives packets from the packet network, converts data in the packets to PCM samples, stores the samples as PCM sample frames in a buffer for further processing by the modem, and determines for each PCM sample frame whether or not during the conversion one or more packets were missing. An equalizer or timing recovery element in the modem adapts using the PCM sample frames and suspends the adaptation for the time period of each PCM sample frame converted without the one or more missing packets. Similarly, searches of the PCM sample frames for certain modem synchronization signals are skipped when, during the search, the searched PCM sample frame was converted without the one or more missing packets.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus obtains image data, generates electronic mail data, and transmits the generated electronic mail data. A size upper limit of the electronic mail data is obtained, the size upper limit being designated by a user, and it is determined whether or not a data size of the generated electronic mail data exceeds a value obtained by subtracting a predetermined value from the size upper limit. If it is determined that the data size of the generated electronic mail data exceeds the value obtained by subtracting the predetermined value from the size upper limit, a plurality of electronic mail data is generated by dividing the image data such that a data size of each of the plurality of electronic mail data does not exceed the value obtained by subtracting the predetermined value from the size upper limit, and the generated plurality of electronic mail data is transmitted.
Abstract:
A communication system includes a data processing device that communicates with a communication device via a first transmission link. The communication device includes a first communication controller that controls communication with the data processing device via the first transmission link, and a second communication controller that controls communication via a second transmission link which is different from the first transmission link. The communication device also includes a transmitter that transmits transmission data sent via the first transmission link through the second transmission link, a canceller that cancels transmission of the transmission data through the second transmission link upon receiving a canceling command via the first transmission link, and an observer that observes whether the communication via the first transmission link, which transmits the transmission data to the communication device, is enabled, in response to receiving the transmission data via the first transmission link.
Abstract:
A method of performing a negotiation session on a modem connection. The method includes receiving a plurality of negotiation signals from the source modem, by a first gateway, forwarding at least some of the received negotiation signals from the first gateway to a second gateway, over a packet based network, receiving, by the first gateway, responses to the forwarded negotiation signals from the second gateway, forwarding the responses from the second gateway to the source modem, by the first gateway, and transmitting from the first gateway to the source modem, response signals to at least some of the received negotiation signals, without receiving a response to the at least some of the signals from the second gateway.
Abstract:
A communications system includes an internet protocol network, a calling modem and an answering modem configured to effectively handle network latency. The calling modem includes a timer storing a network latency value. The network latency value is compared to a network latency threshold. If the network latency threshold is less than the network latency value, then a high speed modem connection is continued. If the network latency value is greater than the network latency threshold, then the high speed modem connection is terminated. In place of the high speed modem connection, a low speed modem connection is established. The calling modem is operable to transmit a modem connection selection signal for selecting a high speed modem connection or a low speed modem connection. The answering modem is operable to receive the modem connection selection signal.
Abstract:
In an Internet facsimile apparatus, a facsimile controller temporarily stores data received from a G3 (Group 3) facsimile apparatus or the other terminal unit to communicate with. A packetizer/depacketizer packetizes the data sequentially read out in accordance with size information fed from a size information storage and feeds the resulting packets to a UDPTL controller and a buffer. The packetizer/depacketizer determines whether data received from the other terminal unit and decoded is a response to data sent from the G3 facsimile apparatus or retransmitted data, and delivers a response detection signal representative of the result of decision to the UDPTL controller. In the UDPTL controller, a filtering circuit deletes stored past data in accordance with the response detection signal representative of a response. The apparatus reduces a load on an IP (Internet Protocol) network.
