Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for providing control information for supporting high speed downlink and high speed uplink packet access.SOLUTION: A Node-B assigns at least one downlink control channel and at least one uplink control channel to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The downlink control channel and the uplink control channel are provided to carry control information for both the downlink and the uplink. Conventional control channels for downlink and uplink are combined into a reduced set of control channels for uplink and downlink. The Node-B and the WTRU communicate control information via the downlink control channel and the uplink control channel. The WTRU receives downlink data and transmits uplink data, and the Node-B receives uplink data and transmits downlink data based on the control information transmitted via the downlink control channel and the uplink control channel.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for providing assistance data to wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs).SOLUTION: The assistance data includes information regarding an access point's neighboring access points. The assistance data is transmitted to WTRUs using multicast and/or broadcast type signaling and facilitates ring and handover of the WTRUs between access points.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of a point-multi-point wireless network in which terminals use a same medium in a shared manner.SOLUTION: A wireless LAN (WLAN) system for communications among a plurality of users (101-105) within a basic service system or a cell comprises a switching access point (SAP) (106) for transmitting (116) and receiving (118) point-to-multipoint communications to and from the users. A plurality of ports are available at the SAP, each of which is assigned to a unique carrier frequency for isolating communications among the users to prevent collisions, with the ability of frequency assignment to be non-permanent, and a capability of dynamic or pseudo-random carrier assignment. An alternative embodiment of the SAP uses beamforming to provide spatial ports for assignments to the plurality of users.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of prior techniques in which, with an intra-LTE handover procedure, details regarding handover commands (such as configurations of UE 152 based on a requirement of a target eNode-B), and details regarding an UE operation after the UE receives the handover command are not provided, and details regarding UE timing adjustment for synchronous and asynchronous eNode-Bs and details regarding efficient scheduling of resources of the target eNode-B for UE transmission are not provided, either.SOLUTION: A method and a system for performing handover in a third generation (3G) long term evolution (LTE) system are disclosed. A source evolved Node-B (eNode-B) sends a handover request to a target eNode-B. The handover command includes at least one of reconfiguration information, information regarding timing adjustment, a relative timing difference between the source eNode-B and the target eNode-B, information regarding an initial scheduling procedure at the target eNode-B, and measurement information on the target eNode-B.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent transmission blocking in an HSUPA wireless communications system.SOLUTION: In a wireless communication system including at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and at least one Node-B (NB), a method and apparatus for preventing transmission blocking comprise triggering transmission of scheduling information (SI) when transmission of a medium access control-d (MAC-d) flow is stopped. The SI is transmitted when the triggering condition is met.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and apparatus for radio link failure detection in wireless communication systems so as to use shared channels to support SRBs in HSDPA and HSUPA, based on the recognition that, when the service supported by a cellular system is mapped to shared channels, the use of dedicated channels to support the SRBs is inefficient, because the traffic may not be continuous.SOLUTION: A method and apparatus for detecting a radio link (RL) failure for uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) in a long term evolution (LTE) wireless communication system including at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and at least one evolved Node-B (eNodeB) are disclosed. A determination is made as to whether an RL has an in-synchronization status or an out-of-synchronization status. An RL failure is declared if an out-of-synchronization status is detected.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for implementing space frequency block coding (SFBC) in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication system.SOLUTION: The present invention is applicable to both a closed loop mode and an open loop mode. In the closed loop mode, power loading and eigen-beamforming are performed based on channel state information (CSI). A channel coded data stream is multiplexed into two or more data streams. Power loading is performed based on the CSI on each of the multiplexed data streams. SFBC encoding is performed on the data streams for each of the paired subcarriers. Then, eigen-beamforming is performed based on the CSI to distribute eigenbeams to multiple transmit antennas. The power loading may be performed on two or more SFBC encoding blocks or on each eigenmodes. Additionally, the power loading may be performed across subcarriers or subcarrier groups for weak eigenmodes.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for controlling transmission power ramp-up during establishment of a communication channel between a subscriber unit and a base station in a wireless CDMA communication system.SOLUTION: A system and method for controlling transmission power during establishment of a channel in a CDMA communication system utilize the transmission of a short code from a subscriber unit to a base station during initial transmission power ramp-up. The short code is a sequence for detection by the base station, which has a much shorter period than a conventional spreading code. The transmission power ramp-up starts from a transmission power level that is ensured to be lower than the required transmission power level for detection by the base station. The subscriber unit quickly increases transmission power while repeatedly transmitting the short code until the signal is detected by the base station. Once the base station detects the short code, it sends an instruction to the subscriber unit to cease increasing transmission power.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for implementing a handoff between radio access networks (RANs) deployed under different radio access technologies (RATs).SOLUTION: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) 150 is equipped with at least two radio units to support the RATs. Each RAN sends a list of co-located RANs in the coverage area of the RAN to the WTRU. The WTRU stores the list and determines whether a handoff criterion is met by one of the co-located RANs. The WTRU then initiates a handoff from a current RAN to a target RAN 110a if the handoff criterion is met by the target RAN 110a.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid a potential problem due to uncertainty regarding a high throughput capability and function in a wireless local-area network (WLAN) including at least one high throughput operable access point (AP), at least one additional access point (AP), and at least one high throughput operable station (STA).SOLUTION: The STA and a target AP communicate high throughput related information and the STA performs basic service set (BSS) transition to the target AP on the basis of the communicated high throughput related information. The high throughput related information is directly communicable between the STA and the target AP, or communicable via a current AP. The STA separately transmits measurement reports related to an extended range and a normal range of the AP or transmits combined measurement reports related to an extended range and a normal range of the AP.
