    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining the presence of a target bacteria based on its resistance to a cell lysing antibiotic of the target bacteria. SOLUTION: The method for determining the presence of a target bacteria in a sample, which target bacteria shows the resistance to a cell lysing antibiotic, is provided, wherein the method comprises following serial steps: (i) a step for incubating a sample in an incubating medium including the cell lysing antibiotic; (ii) a step for capturing unlysed cells of the target bacteria on a solid support comprising a capture agent; (iii) a step for exposing the cells to an agent capable of causing lysis of the unlysed cells of the target bacteria; and (iv) a step for determining the presence of intracellular material derived from the lysed cells of the target bacteria.
