    Abstract: Metal food or beverage containers are coated with a polyether polymer containing at least two ether linkages in the polymer backbone. The polymer is substantially free of segments derived from bisphenol A and epoxides thereof, and is a reaction product of, or can be derived from, (i) an aryl- or heteroaryl-group-containing diepoxide that is not derived from a polyhydric phenol or a glycidyl ester and (ii) a polymer backbone extender that has two functional groups reactive with an epoxy group and which following reaction with the diepoxide provides at least one pendant aryl or heteroaryl group on the polymer backbone, or provides at least one divalent aryl or heteroaryl group in the polymer backbone and linked to the backbone via ether linkages.

    Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a two-component polyurethane topcoat, comprising: a) a film-forming resin composition comprising i) an active hydrogen-containing polymer, having a hydroxyl value of 70 mg KOH/g polymer or more; ii) a polyester resin, having a hydroxyl value of less than 50 mg KOH/g resin and a viscosity of less than 6000 mPa·s at 25° C.; and iii) a package of flatting agents comprising a polysiloxane containing an effective silicon content of 30 wt % or more and an acrylics polymer having a weight average molecular weight in the range of 6,000 to 20,000 g/mol, wherein the weight ratio of the polysiloxane to the acrylics polymer is in the range of 1:5 to 1:15; and b) a polyisocyanate curing agent, wherein the ratio by weight of the component a) to the component b) is in the range of 100:10 to 100:25.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a coating composition or paint comprising a multistage latex with at least first and second stages, wherein the composition or paint is substantially free of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and capable of film formation even in the absence of coalescent agents. The base paint formulation is capable of being tinted at a point-of-sale (i.e. in-store) using a colorant composition of a type and quantity required to produce a paint of desired color and finish. The paints, show improved block resistance, scrub resistance and tack resistance. Rheological techniques as described herein may be used to determine tack resistance, print resistance, and other performance characteristics.

    Abstract: A curable resin composition includes an acetoacetyl functional unsaturated polyester that includes a branched molecular skeleton containing olefinically unsaturated functional groups therein and acetoacetyl functional groups chemically bonded to the branched molecular skeleton. The acetoacetyl functional unsaturated polyester contains at least 2 wt % of the olefinically unsaturated functional groups, relative to the total weight of the acetoacetyl functional unsaturated polyester. The acetoacetyl functional unsaturated polyester contains at least 20 wt % of the acetoacetyl functional groups, relative to the total weight of the acetoacetyl functional unsaturated polyester. The curable resin composition can be used to formulate coating compositions.
