    Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition for antioxidant or whitening effect containing 21-O-angeloyltheasapogenol E3 derived from green tea seed is provided to have an antioxidative effect by inhibition of DPPH and ROS production and an excellent whitening effect due to melanogenesis inhibition and an improvement of pigmentation by ultraviolet rays. Per total weight of the composition, 0.0001-10 weight% of the 21-O-angeloyltheasapogenol E3 is contained. The 21-O-angeloyltheasapogenol E3 is derived from green tea seed. The 21-O-angeloyltheasapogenol E3 is obtained by degrading green tea seed extract using acid, base, enzymes, or microorganism producing the above enzyme.
