An apparatus for transmitting/receiving broadcast service data in a digital broadcast system and a method thereof are provided to receive a corresponding service continuously by inserting information indicating whether a broadcast service provided to a terminal is a nationwide service into a PSI/SI(Program Specific Information/Service Information) signal in the form of flag or descriptor, and to save time and power required to determine whether to continue the corresponding service during a handover of the terminal. A broadcast service data transmitting method in a transmission system of a digital broadcast system includes establishing a flag indicating a service area indicating a range provided with broadcast service data to each broadcast service, and transmitting broadcast service information including the flag and a transport stream including the broadcast service data.

A method and an apparatus for transceiving an ESG(Electronic Service Guide) in a digital broadcasting system are provided to deliver ESG delivery information through an ESG bootstrap session for both of a broadcasting ESG and a PTP ESG. By parsing a delivery mode of an ESG, it is determined whether the ESG can be delivered through a broadcasting network(402,404). If so, first information indicating that a broadcasting ESG is transported is set(406). If the ESG can be delivered in PTP(Point-To-Point) through an interactive network, second information indicating that PTP ESG is transported is set(410,412). ESG delivery information including at least one of the first and second information is loaded on at least one of an ESG provider discovery descriptor, an ESG access descriptor and a unique ESG transport descriptor of an ESG bootstrap session so as to be transmitted to a terminal through the ESG bootstrap session(416).

A download service method using an ESG(Electronic Service Guide) in a digital video broadcasting system and an apparatus therefor are provided to inform that contents, capable of being previously downloaded than a designated schedule, exists through the ESG. An information element indicating a time capable of downloading contents is inserted into a contents fragment(206) corresponding to the contents capable of being previously downloaded. The contents fragment is mapped with a service fragment(202) associated with a corresponding service. ESG data including a schedule event fragment(204) associated with the service fragment and the contents fragment are generated. The ESG data are transmitted to terminals.

A method and an apparatus for estimating the signal quality bitmap of cells are provided to consider bitmaps for a low-priced frequency as a reference bitmap and construct bitmaps for other frequencies based on the reference bitmap, thereby significantly educing a cost caused by bitmap generation and broadcasting. A method for estimating the signal quality bitmap of cells comprises the following steps of: receiving a reference bitmap including signal quality values in all positions within a cell according to a first frequency from the released position of the cell where a receiver is currently positioned(10); estimating signal quality values in all positions within the cell according to a second frequency by using a signal quality value by position of the reference bitmap(20); and constructing an estimated bitmap by using the estimated signal quality values(30).

A method and an apparatus for transceiving an ESG in a digital broadcasting system are provided to group ESG information efficiently when transmitting the ESG in a multistream mode, thereby enabling a user to select and receive necessary ESG data easily. A method for transmitting an ESG(Electronic Service Guide) in a digital broadcasting system comprises the following steps of: gathering ESG data to be transmitted; setting the number of IP(Internet Protocol) streams to transmit the ESG data for transmitting the ESG data in a multistream mode(616); generating partitioning information including at least one partitioning standard for partitioning the ESG data and at least one partitioning value for each partitioning standard used in each IP stream(620,622); and transmitting the partitioned ESG data through the IP streams according to the partitioning information(630). The partitioning standard includes at least one of a service ID(Identification), a service genre, an absolute time, a profiling type and a session type according to the definition of a provider. A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving a signaling parameter in a DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system are provided to transmit and receive the signaling parameter by using a TPS(Transmission Parameter Signaling) symbol in a signal frame of the multimedia broadcasting system. A data processor has an encoder(701), a modulator(702), a parameter input device(703), a PN(Pseudo Noise) sequence generator(704), and a time division multiplexer(705). The data processor locates a signaling parameter to be transmitted to a terminal in a TPS interval of a signal frame, and demodulates the signaling parameter together with transmission data. A frame generator(706) generates and outputs a frame including the transmission data and the signaling parameter according to transmission standard.

A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving an urgent service when performing a sleep mode in a digital broadcasting system are provided to give the urgent service without increasing complexity of a transceiver of a digital broadcasting system. An input member(302) receives plural input signals such as audio/video service signals, a data service signal, and multiplexing construction information. A digital broadcasting signal producing member(303) produces a digital broadcasting signal by using the various signals through operations such as encoding, multiplexing, and modulating. A control member(301) controls timing of the whole blocks. A TII signal producing member(305) produces a TII signal to be inserted into one synchronization channel at every two frames of the digital broadcasting signal. An urgent service signal producing member(306) produces an urgent service signal for notifying the generation of the urgent service. An insertion signal control member(304) controls insertion of the urgent service signal to the synchronization channel of the frame having no TII signal.
