Abstract: An apparatus and a method for inputting character are provided to input alphabet conveniently by pressing two number keys on a number keypad or lining one line on a touch screen. A touch screen(110) recognizes input operation by contact. An input guideline module(120) indicates input guideline classified into a plurality of location areas on the touch screen. A number keypad arranges as 3 by 3 matrix. A line matching module(130) matches alphabet corresponding to a line inputted on the input guide line or matches alphabet corresponding to a plurality of number patterns inputted on the number keypad.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for inputting Korean alphabets are provided to express all of consonants and vowels of Korean alphabets by using only four keys so that the compaction of an electronic device, in which the Korean alphabets are inputted, can be possible. An apparatus for inputting Korean alphabets comprises the followings: a key input unit(110) to which each stroke of consonants and vowels are assigned according to keys(111~114) or combination of the keys(111~114); a memory(120) which stores code values of the consonants and vowels corresponding to the keys(111~114) or the combination of the keys(111~114); and a controller(130) which extracts a consonant and a vowel, corresponding to a key value inputted through the key input unit(110), from the memory(120) and completes a syllable by using the extracted consonant and vowel.
