Abstract: An electronic device may include a lenticular display. The lenticular display may have a lenticular lens film formed over an array of pixels. The lenticular lenses may be configured to enable stereoscopic viewing of the display such that a viewer perceives three-dimensional images. To mitigate jaggedness in a curved edge of the active area, control circuitry may modify input pixel data for the display using dimming factors. Each brightness value of the pixel data may be multiplied by a corresponding dimming factor such that the curved edge has a smooth appearance. Each physical pixel in the display may have an associated perceived pixel that is based on an appearance of that physical pixel through the lenticular lens film. The perceived pixel may have a different footprint than its corresponding physical pixel. The dimming factors for boundary smoothing in the curved edges may be based on the perceived pixels.

Abstract: An electronic device may include an electronic display having multiple pixels to display an image based on processed image data. Each of the pixels may include multiple sub-pixels. The electronic device may also include image processing circuitry to receive input image data, in a first color space, having luminance values for each of the sub-pixels. The circuitry may also map the input image data from the first color space to a second color space and apply a multi-dimensional lookup table, based on the input image data in the second color space, to generate compensated image data. The lookup table may receive the luminance values for each of the sub-pixels and output corrected luminance values compensated for an expected amount of current leakage between the sub-pixels. The circuitry may also inversely map the compensated image data from the second color space to the first color space to generate the processed image data.

Abstract: Techniques for implementing and/or operating an electronic device that includes or utilizes a display panel. The display panel includes an organic light-emitting diode layer, an encapsulation layer disposed over the organic light-emitting diode layer, and a color filter layer disposed over the encapsulation layer. The color filter layer overhangs the organic light-emitting diode layer and comprises a first color filter cell of a first color component sub-pixel that at least partially overlaps an organic light-emitting diode of a second color component sub-pixel that is a different color compared to the first color component sub-pixel.

Abstract: An electronic device that includes a display and an eye tracker configured to collect eye tracking data regarding a gaze of one or more of a user's eyes across the display. The electronic device also includes processing circuitry that is operatively coupled to the display and configured to generate pixel data for frames of content based at least in part on the eye tracking data such that the content is configured to be shown on the display in a dynamically foveated manner. The processing circuitry is also configured to apply a dither pattern to the frames of content independent of the gaze of one or more of the user's eyes.

Abstract: An electronic device such as a head-mounted device may have displays that are viewable by the eyes of a viewer through adjustable lenses. The adjustable lenses may be liquid crystal lenses. A camera and other sensors in the head-mounted device may monitor the eyes of the user and gather other information. Control circuitry in the head-mounted device may control the adjustable lenses based on measured characteristics of the eyes of the user such as interpupillary distance and direction-of-view. The control circuitry may match the distance between the centers of the adjustable lenses to the measured interpupillary distance and may align the lens centers with the measured direction-of-view. The adjustable lenses may have transparent electrodes that are supplied with time-varying control signals by the control circuitry.

Abstract: An electronic device may have a camera and a display. The display may be configured to display virtual reality content for a user in which no real-world content from the camera is displayed or mixed reality content in which a combination of real-world content from the camera and overlaid virtual reality content is displayed. Control circuitry in the device may adjust the display and camera while transitioning between virtual reality and mixed reality modes. The control circuitry may reconfigure the camera to exhibit a desired frame rate immediately upon transitioning from virtual reality mode to mixed reality mode. Transitions between modes may be accompanied by smooth transitions between frame rates to avoid visible artifacts on the display. The camera frame rate may be synchronized to the display frame rate for at least part of the transition between the virtual reality and mixed reality modes.
