Abstract: Thermoplastic material (X) comprises (A) 1-96 wt.% one or more aromatic polycarbonate; (B) 1-96 wt.% one or more polyamide; (C) 1-30 wt.% one or more graft polymer; (D) 1-80 wt.% thermoplastic copolymer; (E) 1-30 wt.% OH gp.-contg. polymeric cpd.; and (F) 0-50 wt.% filler (mixt.) fibres or particles. (C) comprises (C1) 40-80 wt.% rubber elastomer derived from alkyl acrylates with 1-8C atoms in alkyl component and having a Tg less than 10 deg.C; and (C2) 20-60 wt.% graft comprising 50-95 wt.% opt. substd. styrene of formula (I) or mixts. thereof and 5-50 wt.% (meth)acrylonitrile, 1-8C alkyl (meth)acrylate, maleic anhdride, 1-8C alkyl or 6-20C aryl N-substd. maleic acid imide or mixts. thereof. In (I), R is 1-8C alkyl or H; R' is 1-8C alkyl; and n is 0-3. (D) comprises 50-95 wt.% opt. substd. styrene of formula (I), 1-8C alkyl (meth)acrylates or mixts. thereof and 5-50 wt.% (meth)acrylonitrile, 1-8C alkyl (meth)acrylate, maleic anhydride, 1-8C alkyl or 6-20C aryl N-substd. maleic acid imide or mixts. thereof. USE/ADVANTAGE - The use of (X) for the prepn. of fibres, films and moulded articles is claimed. The material shows high heat stability and resistance to cracking under tension.

Abstract: Moulding material comprises (A) 5-95 wt.% graft copolymer comprising at least 1 wt.% of a core with a glass transition temp. (Tg) of more than 25 deg. C. at least 1 wt.% of a first layer of cross-linked polysiloxane of 5-95 wt.% of a second layer with a Tg greater than 25 deg. C of 50-100 wt.% vinyl aromatic monomer.; upto 10 wt.% polyfunctional cross-linking monomer and/or a graftable monomer with at least 2 functional gps. of different reactivity and upto 50 wt.% of one or more copolymerisable monomers and 1-100 wt.% (based on the sum of A1, A2 and A3) of a third layer comprising a copolymer of 1-99 wt.% aromatic monomer and 1-99 wt.% copolymerisable monomer and (B) 5-95 wt.% particulate graft copolymer of 30-80 wt.% of at least one elastomeric polymer with an average particle size of 20-1000 nm of 85-99.8 wt.% of at least one alkyl acrylate with 1-8C alkyl; 0.1-5 wt.% of at least one polyfunctional cross-linking monomer and 0.1-10 wt.% hydroxyalkylacrylate or methacrylate as graft base and 20-70 wt.% of a layer grafted onto (B1) comprising 50-90 wt.% of at least one vinyl aromatic monomer and 10-50 wt.% of at least one polar, copolymerisable alkene unsatd. monomer. (A) has an average particle size of 80-1500 nm. USE/ADVANTAGE - Material is useful for window frames, garden furniture, boats, signs, lampcovers, automobile parts and children's toys. Material exhibits high degree of toughness and has good resistance to weathering and ageing.
