    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a liq. crystal device having high contrast in a light state and a dark state, giving high-contrast high-grade display especially at the time of multiplexing drive and not causing afterimage phenomenon offensive to the eye. CONSTITUTION:This liq. crystal device has an oriented film composed of one or more kinds of polyamides represented by formula I and one or more kinds of polyimides represented by formula II on at least one of the substrates. In the formulae I, II, R1 is a group having a linear molecular structure, R2 is a group having a bent molecular structure each of X and Y is -CxH2x+1 or -(CH2)mCyF2y+1, each of (x) and (y) is an integer of >=1, (m) is an integer of >=0 and (n) is an integer of 2.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the ferroelectric liquid crystal display element for which an area gradation system is used. CONSTITUTION:An inorg. film 3 is formed on an org. film 2 while a substrate 1 formed with the org. film 2 on the front surface is heated to the softening point temp. of the material of the org. film 2 or above at the time of forming rugged shapes within the picture elements of the ferroelectric liquid crystal display element. The rugged shapes uniform over a wide area are thus formed by utilizing the stresses between the two films. As a result, the liquid crystal display element which makes a gradation display by controlling the voltage or pulse time of driving pulses is obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a color device having an excellent characteristic by forming a color filter picture element consisting of a colored resin pattern between conductive film patterns so as to have larger width than inter-pattern width, and also, to have a clearance to between adjacent picture elements on the pattern, and executing selectively a metallic plating processing onto the conductive film. CONSTITUTION:After forming a conductive film on a substrate 1, patterning is executed, and a conductive film pattern 2 having smaller gap width than color filter pattern width is formed. Subsequently, in the gap of the conductive film pattern, a colored resin pattern 3 by a colored resin is formed so as to have larger width than this inter-pattern width, and also, to having a clearance to between adjacent picture elements on this conductive film pattern. In such a way, a color filter picture element consisting of colored resin patterns 3 - 5 of three colors is formed. While providing the selectively between the exposed conductive film pattern and the color filter picture element by using this substrate, a metallic film 6 is deposited electrically or chemically onto the conductive film pattern 2. Thus the device which scarcely causes an orientation defect and has an excellent display quality is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To remove the unevenness of temperature and cell thickness and to perform the display of uniform half tone level without variance by setting an erasion pulse at two stages and taking a 2nd erasion pulse as an incomplete erasion pulse. CONSTITUTION:After a picture element is completely erased to be in one stable state with the pulse having voltage amplitude -V1, it is in another stable state with the erasion pulse having voltage amplitude V2 in an opposite polarity. Thereafter, half tone display pulse having amplitude -V3 is given to the picture element. In such case, the amplitude V1 is set to be equal to or above a maxi mum value in the panel of a saturation voltage value and the amplitude V2 is set to be equal to or below a minimum value in the panel thereof. Thereafter, the picture element is completely in the 1st stable state with the 1st erasion pulse and it becomes in the incomplete 2nd stable state where the 1st stable state is partially left in the picture element with the 2nd erasion pulse. Then, the unevenness of gradient caused by the variance of temperature and cell thickness is removed and the display of the uniform gradation level is performed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform potential gradient over the entire surface of a cell by insulating an electric transmission electrode and an edge part where a conductive film have irregularity in resistance easily. CONSTITUTION:One of a 1st electrode part and a 2nd electrode part is composed of a high-resistance conductive film 2, the striped low-resistance electric transmission electrode 3 arrayed on the high-resistance conductive film 2, and an insulator 4 arranged between the edge part of the high-resistance conductive film 2 and the low-resistance electric transmission electrode 3, and ferroelectric liquid crystal is used as an optical modulating material. Namely, the edge part of the conductive film has low resistance, so the edge part which becomes irregular in resistance and the electric transmission electrode can be insulated from each other. Consequently, a uniform potential gradient is obtained over the entire surface of the cell, variance in display characteristics is eliminated, and a stable gradational display is made.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time required for activation and to improve electron emitting amount and electron emitting efficiency, by impressing voltage to a pair of electrodes in a state of bringing gas containing organic material gas and inert gas into contact with at least a clearance while heating a substrate, for forming a film having carbon. SOLUTION: An element after forming is provided with an activating process. This is a process for forming a film 10 having carbon on a board 1 in a clearance 8 formed with forming and on a thin conductive film 4 close to the clearance 8, and this process noticeably varies element current and emitting current. This activating process can be performed by repeating impression of a pulse voltage in a state of bringing a mixed gas containing organic gas in inert gas such as He, Ne, and Ar into contact with the clearance 8 formed at least by forming. As an adequate organic material, an organic acid group such as aliphatic hydrocarbons or aromatic hydrocarbons of alkane, alkene, or alkyne is used.
