    Abstract: In one embodiment, a method is performed. A device may include an interface in communication with a network. The device may determine whether an all-active multi-homed ethernet segment (ES) associated with the interface is enabled. On a condition that an all-active multi-homed ES is enabled, the device may determine an ethernet virtual private network (EVPN) designated forwarder (DF) state of the all-active multi-homed ES. If the all-active multi-homed ES is enabled and has an ethernet virtual private network (EVPN) designated forwarder (DF) state, the device may enter a protocol independent multicast (PIM) designated router (DR) state. If an all-active multi-homed ES is enabled and does not have an EVPN DF state, the device may enter a PIM non-DR state.

    Abstract: Access-side loop mitigation may be provided. First, a first edge device may determine that a duplicate host exists on a network. Then the first edge device may detect a loop in response to determining that the duplicate host exists on the network. Detecting the loop may comprise sending a message on a plurality of access-side ports of the first edge device and then receiving, in response to sending the message on the plurality of access-side ports of the first edge device, a response on a first access-side port of the plurality of access-side ports of the first edge device. Next, the first edge device may mitigate the detected loop in response to receiving the response.

    Abstract: Presented herein is an exemplified system and method that implicit aliasing in an EVPN network having provider edge nodes in a network infrastructure (e.g., a MPLS infrastructure). In particular, the exemplified system and method employ a Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) based EVPN construct that facilitates multiplexing across large number of different physical interfaces, among multiple device manufacturers and vendors, while providing implicit antialiasing functionality, and being fully supportive of EVPN capabilities. In an embodiment, a method is disclosed that joins the reachability information from a first network device and a second network device, in response to receiving a first EVPN advertisement from the first network device and receiving a second EVPN advertisement from the second network device, such that traffic later transmitted in associated with the first EVI or the first ESI are routable to both the first network device and the second network device.
