    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain gas permselective membrane having increased coefficient of gas transmission and high mechanical strength, by using a graft copolymer obtained from a cellulose derivative and single terminal reactive polyorganosiloxane. CONSTITUTION:A cellulose derivative represented by formula is used wherein X1-X6 are selected from a group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, an acetyl group, a benzyl group, a vinylbenzyl group, a vinyl group, a hydroxyethyl group, a nitro group and an alkoxycarbonyl group, provided that at least one of X1-X6 is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyethyl group, a vinyl group or a vinylbenzyl group. This compound must have a functional group such as a hydroxyl group or a vinyl group capable of reacting with the reactive terminal of single terminal reactive polyorganosiloxane. As the reactive terminal of single terminal reactive polyorganosiloxane, a hydrosilyl group, a halosilyl group or an epoxy group are designated. The graft copolymer of both compounds is formed into a membrane by a known method. A membrane having a thickness of about 0.05-100mum is pref. from the aspect of gas permeability and mechanical strength.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound which is a precursor compound of a side-chain type polymer liquid crystal, having stable liquid crystallinity at a relatively low temperature and useful as a display element and a recording material in the electronics field and a functional material used for nonlinear optical materials, a dimming glass and the like. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [A is a single bond, O, S or COO; Q is a liquid crystal group; (x) is 1-6; (y) is 4-12]. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by reacting ethylene glycol or an oligoethylene oxide represented by formula II with a compound represented by formula III (Y is a halogen except F) in the presence of preferably one equivalent base (e.g. an inorganic base such as lithium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide and an alkali metal hydride such as sodium hydride or potassium hydride), at 0-100 deg.C reactional temperature in an organic solvent (e.g. tetrahydrofuran or dimethoxyethane) in an inert gas atmosphere such as argon or nitrogen.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermally stable, safe composition having high bactericidal and fungicidal activity and free from foaming by compounding a specific polycation having a pyridinium group on the main chain structure and a copper ion and/or a silver ion. SOLUTION: This composition is composed of at least one kind of a polymer comprising (A) a recurrent unit expressed by the formula [X1 and X2 are each a pairing anion in a quaternary salt, i.e., a halide ion, a conjugate base of a mineral acid, an aliphatic carboxylic acid ion, an aromatic carboxylic acid ion, an alkylphosphoric acid ester ion, etc.; (m)=O-6] and having a number average molecular weight of >=1,000, preferably >=3,000, and (B) a copper ion and/or a silver ion preferably at a ratio of the component A: the component B (weight ratio) = (99:1)-(10:90). It is preferable that the microbicidal composition is added to the objective aqueous system in such an amount that the polymer from the component A becomes 0.1-20 ppm, and further the copper ion and the silver ion become 0.1-5 ppm and 0.001-3 ppm, respectively.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyamide useful as a treating agent for orientation, capable of being baked at a lower temperature and uniformly orientating a ferroelectric liquid crystal and an antiferroelectric liquid crystal without causing defects, by making the molar ratio of specific plural repeating units in a specific range. SOLUTION: This polyamide comprises a repeating unit of formula I (A is a single bond, a 2-12C alkylene, a group of formula II, etc.; A is a single bond, a 2-12C alkylene, a group of formula III, etc.; R , R and R are each a halogen, a 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy; X and X are each a single bond, 0 or S; n , n and n are each 0-2) and a repeating unit of formula IV (R is a halogen, a 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy; n is 0-2) in the molar ratio of the repeating units of formula I to formula V in the range of 90/10 to 10/90 and has >=1,000 weight- average molecular weight.

The compound of formula I is obtained by the following process: a compound of formula II (X is a halogen except F) is reacted with a stilbazole compound of formula III to synthesize a quaternary salt compound, on which a base is then made to act to form a betaine compound, which, in turn, is condensed with an acrylic acid derivative of formula IV.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a skin model membrane showing improved functions as a skin-like membrane when subjected to an in vitro examination of the permea tion of a drug through the skin by using a polymer of a specified styrene deriva tive having a long-chain alkyl group. CONSTITUTION: A reaction product of (chloromethyl)styrene with a dialcoholamine compound is reacted with an aliphatic carboxylic acid chloride at room temperature to 100 deg.C in an organic solvent to obtain a styrene derivative having a long-chain alkyl group and represented by the formula (wherein A is a 2-6C polymethylene chain which may be substituted with a methyl or ethyl group; and m is an integer of 10-30). This derivative is polymerized at 40-100 deg.C in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator in an organic solvent to obtain a polymer having long-chain alkyl groups at the side chain positions. A skin-like model membrane is obtained by forming this polymer into a membrane by e.g. a solvent cast process, a melt molding process or by impregnating or coating a porous membrane with a solution formed by dissolving the polymer in a suitable solvent.
