Abstract: 1,221,043. Colour television tubes. SONY CORP. 1 May, 1969, No. 22167/69. Heading HID. In a colour television tube of the type wherein three coplanar beams B B , B G and B R diverge from an electron lens and are converged by two pairs of electrostatic deflection plates PP 1 and QQ 1 , the latter are disposed near a magnetic deflection yoke (not shown) in order to reduce the length of the tube and the inner plates PP 1 are electrically connected at only one end to prevent currents being induced in them by the deflection yoke. In Fig. 4 the plates PP 1 are mounted on a flange 11 at the end of an accelerating electrode (G5, not shown) by means of respective flanges 113, 112 which are provided with apertures through which the outer beams may pass. The other ends of the plates may be joined by insulating members 26 and 27, or these may be omitted (Fig. 5, not shown), and one of the plates may be connected by a spring to a wall coating through which electrical connection is made to the plates. The outer plates QQ1 may be supported from insulator 15 arranged at the ends of pins 114, each of which is secured to one of the plates PP 1 and passes through a cut-out 28 in the other plate. The plates QQ 1 are electrically connected together by a conductor 116 and one of them may be connected to a button in the neck of the tube.

Abstract: 1,237,638. Electron guns. SONY CORP. 14 April, 1969 [13 April, 1968], No. 18981/69. Heading H1D. A plural beam gun for a colour television display tube comprises a number of cathodes enclosed within and supported from a grid. In Fig. 3, the grid comprises a tubular housing 35 closed by an end wall 36 in which are provided three apertures 21 aligned respectively with the three cathodes 18-20. The cathodes extend through a slot in a ceramic support 40 through which extend six pins (41, Fig. 4, not shown), each cathode being supported between a pair of pins by a retaining member (43). The support 40 may be held by friction or by an adhesive and is located between two ceramic spacers 38 and 39. The lower end of the grid housing 35 is closed by a dished member 46 provided with nine apertures for the passage of the six cathode support pins and the heater leads 45. The cathodes are screened from each other by separators 44 depending from the end wall of the grid housing, and in the arrangement described the cathodes are arranged in line.

Abstract: 1,210,341. Colour television tubes. SONY CORP. 5 Feb., 1968 [5 Feb., 1967], No. 6287/69. Heading H1D. In a colour television tube wherein a plurality of beams B B B G B R converge on a grid or shadow mask and are scanned horizontally and vertically across a screen by corresponding magnetic fields produced by a deflection yoke 20, a magnetic correction field is applied to one of the beams in the direction of one of the deflection fields to correct deviations between the rasters of the beams on the screen. In Fig. 5, the beams lie in a common horizontal plane and are converged by electrostatic deflection plates P and Q. Magnetic yoke members Y and Y 1 are mounted on the plates P and P 1 and serve to collect leakage flux from the vertical deflection coils thereby producing a correcting field which acts on the centre beam B G . Each yoke member Y comprises a flat strip with upstanding ends lying transversely across a plate P. The yoke members may additionally be energized by auxiliary external electromagnets. In the deflection yoke 20 the vertical deflection coils are preferably toroidal to produce a barrel-shaped field, and the horizontal deflection coils are saddleshaped to produce a pin-cushion shaped field (Fig. 2, not shown). The deflection plates P and P 1 are supported from the cylindrical grid G 5 by angle members 51. A spring member 55 is secured to a bracing member 54 bridging the free end of the plates to maintain the spacing between the plates, and is connected to a conductive wall coating 56 to which connection may be made by an anode button (not shown). The plates Q are attached to insulating members 53 mounted on support pins 52 extending from plates P; they are connected together by a wire 57 and connected by a wire 59 to a button 58 to which an operating potential may be supplied.

Abstract: A light beam scanning system having an automatic focus correction, comprises a flat carrier having first and second oppositely facing reflective surfaces at least one of which has variations defining a recorded signal, first and second lens assemblies positioned against the first and second reflective surfaces, respectively, an optical assembly providing a light beam path between the first and second lens assemblies and a light source. A light beam emitted from the light source is guided to the first reflective surface of the carrier through the first lens assembly and reflected from such first surface and passed through the first lens assembly, along the optical path between the first and second lens assemblies and through the second lens assembly. The first and second lens assemblies are arranged so that their respective image magnifications or magnification factors satisfy a specific interrelation, thereby to establish the autofocusing of the light beam at the second reflective surface. The light beam directed toward the first reflective surface is focused by said first lens assembly at a point which is spaced along said path from said first surface in the direction toward said first lens assembly.
