Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the efficient operation by making one side a selective state in accordance with the operating system in a state of being not discriminated whether the loaded disk is the one in a 1st class or in a 2nd class. SOLUTION: A discriminating signal producing circuit 27 is provided for discriminating the class of the disk D, and the discrimination is made by a system controller 30 whether the disk D is a CD 100 or DVD 120 in accordance with the discriminating signal DD from the discriminating signal producing circuit 27. By an objective lens 2a on a CD pickup 1a, amplitudes obtained on the disk signal surface of a pull-in signal PI and the surface of disk are detected with the focus servo operation while performing the forced movement. The efficient operation is attained in such a manner that the class of the disk is obtained by measuring the times of both amplitudes and one side is made to the selective state in accordance with the operating system.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold the neutral position of a rotating body of an objective lens driving device for an optical pickup by utilizing the magnetic force of the magnets disposed at need in this kind of the device and to utilize these magnets also as means for preventing the inclination of the optical axis of the objective lens disposed at the rotating body. SOLUTION: The surfaces on which coils 10, 10' disposed respectively in the positions symmetrical with the peripheral surface part of the rotating body 2 are partly provided with magnetic materials 16, 16' for holding the rotating body in the neutral position opposite to the respective magnets 15, 15'. The attraction forces generated between the respective magnetic materials and the respective magnets are respectively varied.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To contrive the simplification of the constitution of a semiconductor laser and a reduction in the size of the laser by a method wherein the laser is formed into the constitution, in which a lowthreshold current type semiconductor laser element is bonded on a lead frame and the element is covered with a protective cover. CONSTITUTION:A low-threshold current type semiconductor laser element 1 is placed on a lead frame 2 and the element is bonded on the lead frame 2 by die bonding. A protective cover 5 is bonded on the lead frame 2 in such a way as to cover the element 1. Thereby, the generation of heat which accompanies a laser oscillation is suppressed low, the temperature characteristics of a threshold current are improved and a constant-current drive can be performed. Accordingly, the constitution of a semiconductor laser is miniaturized, simplified and the laser can be stably used without using an autopower control circuit or the like.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the manufacturing cost by sealing a laser diode element carried by a substrate and a part of a externally connecting conductor with a light-transmitting resin. CONSTITUTION:A lead frame in which a number of substrates 2 and leads 9, 10 as required for several semiconductor laser devices are formed integrally is prepared. A submount 3 to which a laser diode element 5 is bonded to a widened section 2 of each substrate 1 and then wires are bonded to the element. Each device is sealed with a light-transmitting resin 14 by means of compression molding, potting or the like. The lead frame is then cut off to separate the individual semiconductor laser devices. In this manner, it is possible to obviate the need of stems, bases, caps, transparent plates, leads and so on and to decrease the material cost. Accordingly, the manufacturing cost of the semiconductor laser devices can be lowered.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To adopt the structure where the support at the initial position is made accurate and to excess space is taken by adopting such the constitution that the magnetic force of a magnet provided to a 2-axis moving body is utilized for the support of the said moving body at the initial position. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic pieces 16, 16' are arranged at a position where the magnetic flux density from magnets 15, 15' is highest when the 2-axis moving body 2 is in the neutral position in the tracking direction, that is, at the initial position to apply position adjustment in the tracking direction of the objective lens 6. When no drive current is applied to a focusing coil 8 and tracking coils 10, 10', the magnetic pieces 16, 16' are supported at a prescribed neutral position while being attracted magnetically by the magnet. Through the constitution above, only the magnetic pieces 16, 16' are enough as the member supporting the moving body 2 to its neutral position and the structure not requiring the arrangement space is adopted and the highly accurate initial position support is attained.
