    Abstract: A filter assembly has a head portion (12) comprising a housing (20) having inlet means (16) and outlet means (18) for inlet and outlet of fluid respectively and a filter (14) releasably connectable to the head portion and being adapted to receive a flow of fluid from the inlet means and return it to the outlet means. The assembly has valve means (28) within the housing displaceable between a first, closed position, and a second, open position. The filter portion (14) is engageable with the valve means (28), in which condition the filter portion is displaceable with respect to the housing (20) of the head portion between a first position in which the filter portion (14) is disconnected from the head portion and disengageable from the valve means (28) and a second position in which the filter portion (14) is connected to the head portion (12). Displacement of the filter portion (14) between the first and second portions causes the valve means (28) to be displaced between its closed and open positions.

    Abstract: A filtering cartridge (62) with two filter elements (12, 14) having a common axis to filter contaminated fluids such as motor oils or edible oils. The filter elements (12, 14) are composed of a roll of a double-layered, honeycombed, plastic-containing paper. An intermediate space (32) isolated from the outside by a sleeve (10) is formed between the filter elements (12, 14). The filtering cartridge (62) is located in a housing (64). The intermediate space (32) communicates with a fluid presettling section. As shown by the arrows, the fluid is axially pressed through the filter elements (12, 14) and comes out at the front surfaces (56, 58). Thus only filtered fluid is collected inside the housing (64). In addition, the housing (64) is unpressurized.
