Abstract:
A pressure filter includes two continuous mating surfaces movable relative each other and a filter medium capable of being disposed therebetween. A surface, provided for supporting the filter medium, is bounded by and is substantially coplanar with one of the continuous mating surfaces. The filter further includes a shallow inlet cavity, bounded by the other of the continuous mating surfaces, and an inlet distributor in communication with the inlet cavity. The inlet distributor includes at least one opening and may be of internal or external type. When the mating surfaces are pressed together, a shallow filtration chamber is defined by the inlet cavity and the filter medium. The filter apparatus may include a plurality of shallow filtration chambers, stacked one above the other, and constructed as described above.

A tubular member is received coaxially within a tubular housing, has a plurality of lower and upper openings, and has a sealing flange between the top and the bottom ends of the hollow member. The flange cooperates with the housing to direct the wastewater to flow into the hollow member through the lower openings, while a portion of the solid waste matter is not permitted to flow through the lower openings, in a first filtration stage. The wastewater is then directed to flow upward and back out of the hollow member through the upper openings, while any remaining portion of the solid waste matter is not permitted to flow through the upper openings, in a second filtration stage.
Abstract:
A filter device inserts into a duct having flow passing from upstream to downstream. The filter device includes fluted filter media having flutes formed therein. The filter forms a seal between the outer edge of the filter and the downstream side of the duct. The filter media may be rolled or stacked in layers to match the shape of the duct.

An elongated fluid filtering assembly includes an elongated filter element housed within an elongated hollow tube. The filter and hollow tube are supported on an elevated frame by at least two resilient bushings. The resilient bushings allow easy maintenance of the filter. The hollow tube contains at least one transverse slit which allows fluid to enter the fluid chamber and contact the filter. The filter assembly is easily accessible and relatively inexpensive to maintain.

A suction strainer for straining water from the emergency suppression pool of a boiling water reactor includes a plurality of stacked, perforated disks having an internal core with a minimum internal radius r(x) that decreases with increased distance from the intake of the strainer, so that the core has a tapered profile. Internal radius r(x) may vary linearly or exponentially or a combination of both. The stacked, perforated disks each include a first surface that faces in the direction of the intake and a second surface, that faces away from the intake. A circumferential band may connect the first and second surfaces together.
Abstract:
A filter plate which is formed in a molding operation and comprises an outer frame with integrally formed, relatively thin chamber forming walls or skins and which has an injected foam interior core. The filter plate is substantially constructed of plastic materials which are capable of being molded and thereby provides excellent heat transfer characteristics to the slurry which is being separated through the filter plate. The plate is capable of being expanded, much in the same manner as a diaphragm plate in order to improve separation characteristics, but provides excellent heat transfer characteristics and avoids the attendant disadvantages of a conventional diaphragm plate. An accessory in the nature of a filter screen having a unique construction and a method of making a unique filter screen is also disclosed.

A filtering apparatus suitable for being cleaned by backwashing includes an outer housing (11) and an inner filter (13) disposed in the outer housing defining an outer annular flow passage (16) and an inner flow passage (17). The outer housing is tapered in relation to the external shape of the filter to provide a substantially uniform liquid velocity through the filter in both forward flow and backflow directions.
