Abstract:
A system for mounting access plates for covering an access opening onto storage tanks and the like. A backing plate assembly comprising two semi-circular, rigid backing plates is provided. The backing plates are passed individually into the interior of the tank where the backing plate assembly is reconfigured. The backing plate assembly located within the interior of the tank provides a solid structure that can be used to anchor the access plate onto the tank wall over the opening. Interior and exterior gaskets are used to create a fluidtight seal around the opening and to facilitate assembly of the mounting assembly.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a viewing glass having a transparent pane and a pair of flanges. In order to facilitate simple manufacture of the viewing glass, it is proposed that the pane be arranged in an inside step of the one of the flanges and be surrounded by an O-ring for producing a vacuum-tight connection. The edge of the pane and the step of the flange preferably have corresponding frustoconical surfaces.
Abstract:
A vacuum or pressure chamber having a door provided therein with a circular transparent window and a circular, tubular viewing port in front of and smaller than the window. An annular lamp encircles the tubular viewing port in front of and adjacent the window and serves to illuminate the interior of the chamber.
Abstract:
AN APPARATUS FOR USE IN HIGH PRESSURE APPLICATIONS COMPRISING A SOLID BODY HAVING A PARTIALLY ELLIPSOIDAL SHAPE, SAID SOLID BODY BEING OF A MATERIAL HAVING HIGH COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH AND LOW TENSILE STRENGTH AND A MEANS FOR UNIFORMLY SUPPORTING SAID BODY. THE APPARATUS IS ESPECIALLY SUITABLE AS A WINDOW AND A SUPPORT FOR SAID WINDOW WHICH CAN BE MOUNTED IN A REACTION VESSEL FOR VISUAL OBSERVATION OF VERY HIGH PRESSURE CHEMICAL REACTIONS.
Abstract:
According to the invention, in order to produce an observation window (7) in reaction vessels, autoclaves, boilers, nuclear reactors and the like, a cubically stabilised zirconium oxide monocrystal can be used. Preferably, calcium, magnesium, yttrium or another transparent element of the heavy lanthanoids is used to stabilise zirconium oxide. Due to the excellent transparency of such observation windows (7) produced by means of a cubically stabilised zirconium oxide monocrystal, they are especially suitable for monitoring processes in situ in closed vessels such as the above-mentioned reaction vessels and the like, the processes being monitored either optically by means of photographic appliances or video appliances (1), or by means of spectroscopic methods.
Abstract:
A sealed observation element for viewing the flow of molten liquid during the operation of a sulfur recovery unit comprises at least one sight glass that is heated and which may be swept with a purge gas supplied through one or more bleed rings to prevent condensation or deposition of materials on the side of the sight glass exposed to the process stream.
