A steel cord for the reinforcement of rubber articles is formed by twisting 4-5 strands, each strand (1) being formed by twisting a sheath (3) of 4-5 steel filaments around a core (2) of a single steel filament, wherein a ratio of diameter d S of the steel filament constituting the sheath to diameter d C of the steel filament constituting the core is within a range of 1.00 - 1.75, and a twisting direction of the sheath in the strand is the same as a twisting direction of the strand in the cord, and a twisting angle a of the sheath in the strand with respect to an axis of the cord, as calculated by a certain defined equation, is within a range of 30 - 52°.

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a multi-strand cable (46) of 1xN structure comprising a single layer (48) of N helically wound strands (50). Each strand (50) comprises an inner layer (52) of M inner wires (54) and an outer layer (56) of P outer wires (58). The method comprises: - a step of individually assembling each of the N strands (50) during which, and in chronological order: - the M inner wires (54) are wound, - the P outer wires (58) are wound, and - the M inner wires (54) and P outer wires (58) are elongated such that the structural elongation associated with the P outer wires (58) of each strand (50) is 0.05% or higher, - a step of collectively assembling the N strands (50) during which the N strands (50) are wound together to form the cable (46).

A steel cord for reinforcement of rubber articles, whose cord strength is enhanced by preventing occurrence of preceding break of the outermost layer filaments in the steel cord having a multi-twisted structure, and a pneumatic tire using it as a reinforcing material are provided. In a steel cord for reinforcement of rubber articles having a multi-twisted structure in which a plurality of strands are twisted together, which strands have a layered twisted structure in which a plurality of steel filaments are twisted together, dc/ds, which represents the ratio between dc, the diameter of outermost layer sheath filaments constituting the outermost layer sheath of a core strand, and ds, the diameter of outermost layer sheath filaments constituting the outermost layer sheath of sheath strands, is 1.05 to 1.25.

A sling for industrial lifting made of a load-bearing core (1) and a cover (2). The cover (2) protects the plurality of yarns (3) that make-up the core (1). Each core yarn (3) is made of a number of core threads (4) twisted together. The core yarns (3) are twisted together where the twist is in the. same direction as the individual core strands and a different direction than the twist of the cover (2). The present invention describes the method of twisting the core yarns (3) together by inserting core yarns (3) substantially parallel into a cover (2) that has a twist opposite of each core strand. As the core strands are inserted into the cover (2), the twists of the individual core yarns (3) interact with the twist of the cover (2), resulting in the core yarns (3) twisting together.

One aspect of this invention concerns a multi-strand steel wire rope (28, 32, 36, 46, 50) comprising multiple strands (3, 10, 38) laid up helically on a core (30, 34,), characterised in that at least some of the strands are deep strands (10, 38), i.e. strands with a heightwidth ratio greater than unity.
