Abstract:
A rope structure comprising a plurality of formed composite strands. Each of the formed composite strands comprises fiber material and matrix material. The fiber material within the matrix material is twisted. The shapes of the plurality of formed composite strands are predetermined to facilitate combination of the plurality of composite strands into the rope structure.

Abstract:
For reinforcing rubber or plastics articles, particularly pneumatic tires, a wire filament is proposed which is spirally shaped and exhibits no elastic residual torsional stresses. A wire filament 8 according to the invention is produced by twisting drawn straight wire filaments 2 into the range of plastic deformation with subsequent return-twisting, at least two wire filaments being brought together and combined prior to return-twisting. Preferably at least two wire filaments 2 are brought together by means of a perforated disk 30, twisted about each other and plastically deformed in a false twister 20 and subsequently return-twisted in a further false twister 40.
Abstract:
A method for using a bunching type twisting machine to manufacture a steel cord made up of one core filament having a continuous wavy form and five to eight sheath filaments not having a wavy form disposed around the core filament, the cross-sectional shape of the cord forming an ellipse whose orientation is substantially constant in the length direction of the cord. After a core filament is preformed with a helical wavy form of a smaller pitch than the cord twisting pitch, this is squashed to form a flat helical core filament at a stage before it is twisted together with sheath filaments, and then sheath filaments are twisted around this flat helical core filament to make an intermediate product cord and this intermediate product cord is then squashed and thereby flattened before being taken up on a reel.
Abstract:
A PC strand is formed by twisting peripheral wires made of deformed PC steel wires around a core, and allowing rust inhibitive material of thermoplastic resin to permeate into voids defined among the core and peripheral wires by use of an extruder. Since at least one of the core and peripheral wires is made of a deformed PC steel wire having an uneven outer surface, the thermoplastic resin can smoothly permeate deep into the inside of the PC strand.

Abstract:
A metal cord usable for the reinforcement of rubber articles is comprised of a helically formed single wire filament having a twisting angle of 75-84.5.degree. or a bundle of two twisted metal filaments each having a twisting angle of 75-84.5.degree.. Such metal cords are preferably used as a rubber reinforcement in each part of a pneumatic tire.
Abstract:
A metal cord is formed by twisting two spirally preshaped metal filaments together with a twisting pitch P. The metal filament has not only the spiral shape formed by twisting, but retains so much of its spiral preshape as to have a pitch p equal to 0.20-0.50 times the twisting pitch and a diametric height h of 0.05-0.25 mm. The retained spiral shape is in the same rotary direction as the direction in which the filaments are twisted together.
Abstract:
Process and apparatus for making a flexible tube comprising a plurality of helicoidal metal members in side-by-side relation. In the process, metal strips, shaped to the desired configuration, are twisted around their longitudinal axes to helicoidal shape, the twisting being sufficient to cause the shape to be retained if the strip is released. Thereafter, the so-shaped strip is bent around an axis extending in the width direction of the strip by an amount sufficient to cause the strip to have a radius substantially equal to the tube radius. The strips are then laid up, side-by-side into a tube. The apparatus comprises a rotatable cage carrying bobbins having the strips thereon, two pairs of preshaping rollers to produce the twist and the bend mounted for rotation with the cage, a mold for laying up the helicoidal strips, a guide element for the strips intermediate the rollers and the mold and a take-up bobbin or drum for winding up the tube as it leaves the mold.
