    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire rope with a high strength and longer useful life. SOLUTION: The wire rope 10 has an independent wire rope core 20 including individual core wires 22, wherein the individual core wires 22 are encapsulated in a tubular sheath of an elastomeric or a polymeric material with a core lubricant. A plurality of strands 30 are located adjacent to the individual core wires 22. Strand wires 32 are encapsulated in a tubular sheath of elastomeric or polymeric material that retain the lubrication for the individual strand wires 32. A core-encapsulating material 24 and a strand-encapsulating material 34 prevent direct metal-to-metal contact between the individual core wires 22 and the individual strand wires 32 and between the strand wires 32 of adjacent strands 30. The core encapsulating material 24 and the strand encapsulating material 34 are applied in a manner so as to avoid loss of the lubricant.
