Abstract:
A truck in accordance with the present invention includes a dump body, a truck frame with a rear axle, a lift system, and a conveying system. The dump body is defined by a unitary floor, a pair of sidewalls which extend tip from opposite sides of the floor, and a front wall and a back wall located on opposite sides of the floor and extending between the sidewalls. The dump body is pivotally connected to the truck frame adjacent to the back wall. The lift system is mounted to the truck frame and the dump body for lifting an end of the dump body proximate the front wall between a lowered resting position on the truck frame and an upper raised position. The conveying system is positioned on the floor behind the rear axle and extends between the pair of sidewalls. The dump body has at least one opening in alignment with the conveying system.
Abstract:
A hydraulic system is provided including a hydraulic pump which is continuously coupled with the engine of a utility such as a dump truck utilized for snow-ice removal. When hydraulic implements employed on the truck are not actuated, the pump operates in a cavitation mode. During this cavitation mode of operation, there is no ingress of air through seals or the like to a venting of the gear pump chamber essentially to tank or atmosphere. A poppet valve is actuated in conjunction with periodic use of hydraulic elements on the truck to actuate the pump to an operational or pressurized mode. A key actuated calibrating system is employed to calibrate snow-ice removal components in a secure manner. Calibration is provided in conjunction with EEPROM memory.
Abstract:
An adaptable material-spreading vehicle includes in combination a truck body frame, a rear-mounted engine on the frame above the rear wheels, a forward cab, a removable hopper positioned between the cab and the rear-mounted engine, and a conveyor running from beneath the hopper directly through the cab to a material spreader mounted forward of the cab in view of the operator, with the hopper and conveyor being removably mounted to the truck frame, such that the material spreader vehicle can be converted to some other use. In one embodiment, the cab is provided with a central channel through the floor to accommodate the section of the conveyor passing through the cab, with the cab being provided with sealable conveyor ports aligned fore and aft through which the cab-carried conveyor section is passed. In a preferred embodiment, the conveyor runs the entire length of the bottom of the hopper trough such that material is initially removed from the rear of the hopper, thereby providing that the majority of the weight of the dispensed material is as far forward as possible.
Abstract:
A vehicle-mounted spreading apparatus includes a container for the material to be spread, at least one spreading disc rotatable about a vertical axis and a dosing device for conveying material from the container to the spreading disc as the vehicle moves along the ground. The disc and the dosing device are powered from a driving wheel which can be lowered into driving contact with the ground. The driving wheel conveys power to a mechanical power transfer assembly which drives the dosing device and which drives an adjustable speed motor system for the spreading disc.
Abstract:
A vehicle with apparatus for discharging material such as salt on a roadway or the like at a rate that a control system automatically varies with vehicle speed includes means that ordinarily interrupts normal control to prevent discharge of material while vehicle speed is below preselected threshold value. The system also includes a blast circuit which responds to momentary manual operation of a switch to impose a blast signal on control system to override all other control activity to cause rapid dispensing of material for a preselected period even if vehicle is stopped or moving below the threshold speed.
Abstract:
An apparatus for broadcasting particulate or granular material over a ground surface involves a variable speed spinner and a material conveyor. The spinner is positioned generally horizontally below a discharge end of a material conveyor. The spinner has a disk having a generally radially disposed fin fixed to an upper side of the disk and radiating outwardly from a center of the disk. The spinner is positioned to receive material from the material conveyor at a location about half way along a length of the fin. In a method broadcasting particulate or granular material over a ground surface, the spinner is preferably rotated at a speed of 900-1000 rpm. The apparatus and method provide for distribution of material over greater distances and can do so without pulverizing the material, creating a uniform pattern of distribution over a 50% wider swath.

Abstract:
A road machine for preventing slippery roads and comprising a means for discharging and spreading material for preventing slippery roads as well as a device for verifying the discharge function. The verifying device comprises a microwave transmitter/receiver (10) and a signal processing circuit (20), which in response to the received signal can detect the presence of discharged material for preventing slippery roads. In this manner it is possible to carry out a contact-free verification of the discharge function of particles moving at a specific speed and in a specific direction.
Abstract:
A device mounted on a vehicle (2) for measuring the friction of a hard underlying surface, such as a roadway or a runway, whilst the vehicle is in motion, wherein a recording wheel (1) on the vehicle is brought into contact with the underlying surface and the movement of the wheel relative to the underlying surface is measured. The recording wheel is free-running with no braking means, and is mounted on the vehicle in such a manner that with the aid of an actuator (6, 7) it is capable of turning to an angle relative to the direction of travel of the vehicle. A means (9, 10) is provided to record the friction between the tread of the recording wheel (1) and the underlying surface. The device is designed to continously measure roadway or runway friction and at the same time, as a function thereof, to operate a road gritting apparatus (23) mounted on the vehicle.
Abstract:
A vibratoty plate compactor with aggregate feed system includes a frame, a soil compacting plate and a drive mechanism, such as a hydraulic motor, is mounted on the frame and has a rotatable drive shaft which uses a V-belt to drive a vibratory actuator on the tamping plate. The frame also carries a hopper that uses a screw conveyor to force the stored aggregate into a vertical conduit. A tamping piston forces aggregate out of the vertical conduit, through apertures in the compactor plate and compacts the loose soil with a multitude of blows, the vibratory plate is then actuated to further compact the aggregate. The process is repeated until the cavity is filled and compacted to the required density. The vibratory plate compactor with aggregate feed system is ideally suited to filling and compacting aggregate in used automobile tires that are used in the formation of a tire wall.
