Abstract:
A Message Storage and Deliver System (10) (MSDS) is connected to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and receives incoming calls with these calls being facsimile, voice, or data transmissions. The MSDS (10) detects the type of call and stores the message signal in a database. The MSDS (10) is also connected to the Internet and has a hyper-text transfer protocol deamon (HTTPD) for receiving requests from users. The HTTPD forwards requests for certain files or messages to a network server which transmits at least part of the message to the HTTPD and then to the user. In addition to request for certain documents, the HTTPD may also receive a request in the form of a search query. The search query is forwarded from the HTTPD to an application program for conducting the search of the database. The results of the search are forwarded through the HTTPD to the user. The user may then select one or more files or messages from the search results and may save the search for later reference.
Abstract:
A fax-aware telephone (38) for handling facsimile transmissions over a computer network, such as the Internet, that includes a facsimile processing unit (40) for handling an incoming or outgoing facsimile call, a voice processing unit (42) for handling an incoming or outgoing voice call, a memory unit (44) for storing an incoming facsimile transmission, and a file transfer protocol client (46) for transferring a facsimile transmission to the computer network, an external storage device, or to a printer driver. The fax-aware telephone (38) handles a facsimile call and a voice call together over a single data line from a computer network.
Abstract:
An image processing apparatus registers voice call destination information and data transmission destination information for a destination in association with each other. The image processing apparatus executes a voice call with the destination using the voice call destination information, and executes, after the voice call, data transmission to the destination using the data transmission destination information in accordance with a data transmission instruction input by the user.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus enabling a user to easily specify a network for communication. A communication apparatus, to which a telephone is adapted to be connected, is capable of communicating with a plurality of networks. A dial tone output unit outputs, when off-hook of the telephone is detected, a dial tone to the telephone in accordance with dial tone setting information includes a dial tone, to be output to the telephone, which is based on whether a connection to the networks is available. A detection unit detects, when the dial tone is output to the telephone by the dial tone output unit, input contents. A storage unit stores registration information, used for identifying one network from among the plurality of networks based on the detected contents. An identification unit identifies a network for communication including a communication destination based on the detected contents, in accordance with the registration information.
Abstract:
There are provided a communication apparatus capable of performing voice communication via an IP network, and performing FAX communication using a deemed voice, and a method of controlling the same. At the time of reception of an incoming call, the apparatus determines whether an incoming voice communication call or digital data has been received. If it is determined that the incoming voice communication call has been received and there is an already connected voice communication section, the SLIC superimposes a tone of a notification of the incoming call during voice communication on a voice during voice communication. When the telephone instructs to switch to the incoming call, the apparatus establishes a new session for the incoming call, and controls the selector to connect the already connected voice communication session to the digital modem to send a holding tone.
Abstract:
Unified communication system for consolidating different message sources (e.g. emails, SMS, voice message, fax, etc.) into a single accessible location with the ability to incorporate phone calls, VoIP calls, voice commands, etc. This is achieved through integration of a Speech-ready IVR system with an E-mail client to act as the Unified Communication System. Furthermore, the IVR flexibility allows the user to access messages when internet access is not available or read messages such as SMS and emails when not physically convenient e.g. when user is driving. A computer based server receives a message in the format of SMS, fax, e-mail, or phone message. The server identifies what format the message is in and displays a notification on a graphical user interface. Through integration with a speech ready IVR system user may select to listen to the message or read the message.
Abstract:
A signal processing system which discriminates between voice signals and data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier. The signal processing system includes a voice exchange, a data exchange and a call discriminator. The voice exchange is capable of exchanging voice signals between a switched circuit network and a packet based network. The signal processing system also includes a data exchange capable of exchanging data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier on the switched circuit network with unmodulated data signal packets on the packet based network. The data exchange is performed by demodulating data signals from the switched circuit network for transmission on the packet based network, and modulating data signal packets from the packet based network for transmission on the switched circuit network. The call discriminator is used to selectively enable the voice exchange and data exchange.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus (10) for handling telephone calls which comprises: means for configuring the operation of the apparatus based on user preferences relating to the handling of calls from particular callers, means for storing the user preferences, means for processing incoming calls based on the user preferences, and means for receiving updates to the user preferences in dependence on changes to a preference database for storing the preferences of at least one user. The invention also relates to a telecommunications system, and to an associated server.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, apparatus including computer program products having instructions for porting numbers are provided. In one example system and method, a vPBX system can receive a request from a user to port an existing phone number to the vPBX system. The vPBX server can identify a porting authentication template, based on the requirements of an existing service provider. The vPBX server generate a fax document on the retrieved template. The vPBX server can populate the generated fax document with user information. The vPBX server can receive a user's hand signature from a touch-screen interface of a mobile device. The vPBX server can authenticate the fax document with the received signature, and transmit the authenticated fax document to the existing service provider. The vPBX server can provide the user with a temporary line number with forwarding functions until porting is completed.
Abstract:
A system and method for managing incoming and outgoing communications may include a definition of if, when, and who may communicate with a recipient. The identification of the communication may be concealed in that no actual addresses, phone numbers, or other addressing identifications are required to be exchanged by the communication initiator and recipient. In an example, if the database contains call management settings for a call recipient, the application logic may evaluate the rules to determine if a particular caller is authorized to connect with the call recipient at the current time and date. The application logic may connect the call utilizing the public telephone switch. The caller and call recipient phone numbers may be stored in a database.
