Abstract:
A communication system is adapted to accommodate changes in bandwidth demand through the use of modular components. According to a preferred embodiment a plurality of communication interface modules, such as radio modules, are coupled to a communication signal processor, such as a multi-port modem, in order to serve an initial bandwidth demand. Thereafter, additional communication signal processors may be added, being coupled to one or more of the communication interface modules decoupled from the initially deployed communication signal processor, to serve an increased bandwidth demand. Preferably, an expansion chassis architecture is used to accommodate a number of communication signal processors at least equivalent to the number of communication information interfaces of the plurality. In preferred embodiments, the communication interface modules operate upon different channels, such as radio frequency channels, although coupling to the communication signal processor upon a same channel, such as a common intermediate frequency channel.

A modular, re-enterable telecommunications terminal (50), for making and breaking connections with insulated wire conductors, includes one or more base frames (52) supporting wire termination modules (55, 56) thereon, and a multi-pin socket (60) thereon is connected to another base froze (52) by one or more bridging modules (100). The termination modules (55, 56) are manually operable for terminating wires in insulation displacing connectors (70, 85), and are selected and positioned according to the type of terminations desired. Manually pushing and pulling the termination module drivers (65, 80) toward and away from the base frames (52) effects movement of the wires between connected and open positions.

An apparatus and system is provided for coupling an ethernet switch to communication link(s) in a communication network without requiring the disconnection and reconnection of the communication link(s). A module is configured to accommodate components of an ethernet switch, and can be modularly introduced into a communication rack and quickly engaged with rack-mounted mating connectors which are coupled to the communication link(s).

The present invention concerns a modular expandable telecommunication system, such as a private automatic branch exchange system (PABX), comprising a main cabinet and at least one expansion cabinet, which are interconnected with each other in order to obtain an extended telecommunication system with increased connection possibilities for extensions and trunks. System characterised in that the main cabinet (1) and each of the expansion cabinet (2) comprise a transmission interface unit (3, 3') allowing connection of the said expansion cabinet(s) (2) with said main cabinet (1) via a single transmission link (4) conveying voice/data channels and low level or local signalling for performing at least mutual synchronisation and clock recovery for all interconnected cabinets (1 and 2), the main cabinet (1) comprising in particular a master clock device (5), a CPU (6) for running the application and a DSP (7) for routing the higher level messages issued by the CPU (6) depending on the physical location of the destination cabinet (2).

Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein elekronisches Gerät und insbesondere eine Fernmeldevermittlungsanlage, mit mehreren in jeweils einem Modulgehäuse angeordneten elektronischen Modulbaugruppen, welche über jeweils eine Kontaktierungsvorrichtung an eine gemeinsame Verbindungsleiterplatte elektrisch anschließbar sind. Es wird vorgeschlagen, die Verbindungsleiterplatte in einem Basisgehäuse anzuordnen und die Modulgehäuse der Modulbaugruppen außerhalb des Basisgehäuses an einer Frontwand des Basisgehäuses lösbar zu befestigen, welche Frontwand Ausnehmungen zur Durchführung der Kontaktierungsvorrichtungen aufweist.

A modular digital telephone system and method featuring a universal telephony shelf adaptable for incremental expansion of legacy telephone switches and as a building block in the construction of new telephony switches. The shelf includes identification and connectors for shelf pairing, and is adapted to receive redundant power supplies, plural line cards, and either a peripheral shelf interface unit or a switch array card which provides both a local shelf interface and three interface units for connection to the peripheral interface units of other shelves. System wide fault displays are provided.
