    Abstract: A dosage control device, particularly suited for use by persons with impaired vision who from time to time may give themselves injections such as diabetic. The dosage control device is a sheet like, elongated plastic member having a transverse slot for snapping over the finger projections on the end of a standard hypodermic syringe. A scale is provided in a predetermined disposition with respect to the slot so that when the device in conjunction with the outer end of the plunger duplicates the normal scale on the syringe. In use, a doctor or other person would cut off the outward extending end of the device at the scale marking for the desired dosage, so that the diabetic could control his dosage by feel rather than sight.

All detectors are sandwiched between a base and a single window that overlies them. The analyzer further includes a narrow band filter corresponding to an absorption wavelength band for a gas of interest and a narrow band reference filter corresponding to a reference wavelength band. Each of the narrow band filters are positioned outside the assembly and between the assembly and the source in the path of infrared energy.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the concentration of carbon dioxide in respiratory gases. The apparatus is a non-dispersive gas analyzer (100) attached in series with the respiratory airway which is universally compatible with any host system. The analyzer (100) includes a housing (102) which supports a sample cell containing the respiratory gases, and which contains an infrared radiation source (130) encased in shock absorbing material, means for directing the radiation into a collimated beam through the sample cell, means (145) for splitting the beam and directing it towards two infrared detectors (142, 146) for measuring the amount of absorption of carbon dioxide in the sample cell. The analyzer has two heating servos (118, 152), one regulating the temperature of the sample cell windows to inhibit condensation build-up and one regulating the ambient temperature surrounding the detectors (142, 145) to ensure more accurate measurements. Calibration means within the analyzer housing (102) stores and provides information characterizing performance parameters of the analyzer (100).

    Abstract: A non-dispersive infrared gas analyzer is disclosed that accurately measures the concentration levels of a plurality of gases within a gas mixture. The analyzer includes first and second sample cells and is utilized advantageously for the measurement of NOx and hydrocarbon gas present in the exhaust of an automobile engine. The gas mixture of the exhaust is chilled before entering the first sample cell to remove a substantial amount of the water vapor from that sample cell to facilitate measurement of the NOx gas. The second sample cell receives the gas mixtue in an unchilled state to allow for accurate measurement of the hydrocarbon gas. The analyzer includes processors which are utilized to further correct the NOx measurement and which also interact with each other to provide an output data stream that is representative of the concentration levels of the gases that are being analyzed.

    Abstract: Automatic zeroing apparatus zeroes an infrared gas analyzer automatically upon the occurrence of preselected conditions to indicate zero in the absence of absorption of infrared radiation by a gas mixture being analyzed. The gas analyzer has a sample cell for containing a gas mixture to be analyzed. Infrared radiation directed through the sample cell is detected at a preselected wavelength to produce a detection signal. A signal processor outputs a signal systematically related to the difference between the detection signal and a reference signal. For zeroing the sample cell is filled with gas substantially nonabsorbent of infrared radiation at the respective characteristic wavelength. A comparator produces an error signal when the output signal differs from zero. A gain control automatically controls the signal level of the detection signal to reduce the output signal substantially to zero with the nonabsorbent gas filling the sample cell. The preselected conditions may include the passage of a predetermined time and a temperature drift beyond a predetermined limit.
