Abstract:
A software LBS trigger is initiated by a wireless device to request a set of proximate location information points relating to, e.g., points of interest, location tagged blogs, etc., based on the user's current location. The LBS trigger may be initiated when the user moves, and may include speed of the user to define a proximate area within which the user's device will be presented with relevant location information upon reaching. The size of the proximate area may be based on available memory in the wireless device, and/or on network bandwidth limitations. If walking, a smaller proximate area is defined, or if moving fast, the area of close proximity is larger. The location-based information points are stored locally on the user's device, and presentation to the user when the user gets closely proximate to the relevant information point.
Abstract:
A cellular phone tracking scope tracks (Figure # 1) and visually maps the location (Figure #2) and movement history of cellular phones in one or more cellular networks in a region of interest. The tracked cellular phones include detection and tracking of the location (latitude/longitude) of those that are not in use. With proper authorization, specific telephone numbers may be tapped, providing the ability to track an entire universe of cell phones by simultaneously displaying all phones within a specific boundary on a "tracking scope" similar to a radar scope. The tracked cellular phones that are displayed may be filtered, e.g., to show which cellular phones are those of a friend, which are those of a foe, and/or which are those of an unknown person or device. The location and phone number of desired phones can be displayed.
Abstract:
Constant availability and/or presence information of a roaming Instant Messaging (IM) user is provided. The invention recognizes that IM users are not always sitting at their computer where their IM client application is installed. Detection of an unrelated short-range wireless communication device, e.g., a Bluetooth cell phone, or an RFID, carried on the body of the IM user, is accomplished by other, local or guest computers, and reported as presence changes for that particular IM user to an IM server, that logs that IM user's presence in a suitable IM user presence database. Thus, a status or presence change is automatically updated in an IM server or other relevant IM application when a roaming IM user is in a vicinity of a guest computer at a different location.
Abstract:
A voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) positioning center (VPC) is implemented in configuration with support from a text-to-voice module, emergency routing database, and VoIP switching points (VSPs) to allow a public safety access point (PSAP) or other emergency center to effectively communicate the nature of an emergency alert notification and the area of notification to the VoIP positioning center (VPC). The inventive VPC in turn determines which phones (including wireless and/or VoIP phones) are currently in the area for notification, and reliably and quickly issues the required warning to all affected wireless and VoIP phones.
Abstract:
A technique evaluates overlapping request intervals, and from them determines a temporal reporting interval that satisfies requirements for all that overlap. The temporal reporting interval represents a temporal trigger used to best support multiple triggers on the same target, without modification or support by the target mobile. Disclosed embodiments relate to an example of location requests wherein multiple users, by chance, request location triggered services on the same target mobile during the same time period. To minimize the usage of mobile and network resources, the present invention reduces the number of active triggers on a target mobile subjected to multiple requests (e.g., location requests from multiple tracking applications).
Abstract:
A multimedia messaging service (MMS) intelligent content evaluator gateway is provided to allow use of a single address mailbox and Internet domain for receipt of either an MMS or an SMS message. The MMS intelligent content evaluator gateway evaluates the content of a received message, and then forwards the same to the appropriate system for delivery. The MMS intelligent content evaluator gateway makes use of database tables containing subscriber information and message routing tables necessary to derive the MMS and SMS destination addresses for each subscriber or range of subscriber addresses. Tables may also be implemented indicating the capabilities of each subscriber’s handset, such as whether or not the handset can support MMS messages.
Abstract:
An improved User Plane location based service (LBS) architecture and message flow, enabling seamless User Plane location based services even when a mobile or wireless device has roamed among different carrier networks. The present invention overcomes constraints inherent in the current protocol for roaming support defined by the Secure User Plane Location Service specification. A location system is enabled to automatically fall back to a message tunneling mechanism to ensure the security of a communication path between the location service system and the target wireless device, ensuring that the communication path is uninterrupted as the wireless device travels.

A paging receiver as part of a wristwatch. Received messages are displayed using an analog mechanism. A plurality of disks (26) largely hidden behind a watch face (13), but having a small area visible through an aperture (27) in the watch face, can be independently rotated to display standard messages, coded messages, and number sequences. Other analog watch mechanisms, such as drums (160) and sliding bars (190) visible through respective apertures in the watch face can include marks representing standard paging messages. These other analog watch mechanisms can be moved such that a selected mark is visible through the respective aperture in response to receiving a paging message. A special hand (180) on the watch may be controlled to point to markings (22) on the watch's face or bezel which signify standard paging messages received by the pager.

A portable communication device (20) which also has an infrared transceiver. A portable communication device (20) can automatically establish infrared communication sessions with another portable communication device or desktop computer (40) having an infrared transceiver (42). The portable communication device (20) and the other device may exchange textual and graphical information, as well as the current time (24), and then reconcile the newly received information with that information in possession before the communication session began. Multiple portable communication devices and computers may communicate, while conserving battery power, using a time division multiplexing scheme where the infrared transceivers are active during short, periodic time slots. Multiple communication session may overlap in time as long as they are not active during the same time slot.
Abstract:
A location application can be configured to detect a call to a particular telephone number. The location application can also be configured to receive a plurality of radio frequency (RF) signals provided through a plurality of different RF interfaces. Each of the RF interfaces can be configured to receive RF signals of different protocols. The location application can also be configured to determine an identifier (ID) for a source of each of the RF signals. At least two of the RF signals can be of different protocols. The location application can also be configured to insert the ID for the sources of each of the RF signals into call signaling for the call.
