    Abstract: A software LBS trigger is initiated by a wireless device to request a set of proximate location information points relating to, e.g., points of interest, location tagged blogs, etc., based on the user's current location. The LBS trigger may be initiated when the user moves, and may include speed of the user to define a proximate area within which the user's device will be presented with relevant location information upon reaching. The size of the proximate area may be based on available memory in the wireless device, and/or on network bandwidth limitations. If walking, a smaller proximate area is defined, or if moving fast, the area of close proximity is larger. The location-based information points are stored locally on the user's device, and presentation to the user when the user gets closely proximate to the relevant information point.

    Abstract: A cellular phone tracking scope tracks (Figure # 1) and visually maps the location (Figure #2) and movement history of cellular phones in one or more cellular networks in a region of interest. The tracked cellular phones include detection and tracking of the location (latitude/longitude) of those that are not in use. With proper authorization, specific telephone numbers may be tapped, providing the ability to track an entire universe of cell phones by simultaneously displaying all phones within a specific boundary on a "tracking scope" similar to a radar scope. The invention recognizes that IM users are not always sitting at their computer where their IM client application is installed. Detection of an unrelated short-range wireless communication device, e.g., a Bluetooth cell phone, or an RFID, carried on the body of the IM user, is accomplished by other, local or guest computers, and reported as presence changes for that particular IM user to an IM server, that logs that IM user's presence in a suitable IM user presence database. Thus, a status or presence change is automatically updated in an IM server or other relevant IM application when a roaming IM user is in a vicinity of a guest computer at a different location.
