    Abstract: A moldable refractory composition consisting essentially of defined quantities of liquid vehicle; ceramic fiber; inorganic binder derived from a colloidal dispersion; and organic binder which is a high molecular weight polar organic polymer; the liquid vehicle being a solvent for the organic binder and a non-solvent for the ceramic fiber; the composition having defined solid content, defined density, defined viscosity and defined modulus of rupture. Also described are a method of manufacture of the composition, and a method of forming a refractory moldable shape.

    Abstract: A process for the selective separation of at least one component eg propylene of a gaseous feedstream comprises passing the feedstream containing the component through a separation unit (50), the separation unit (50) containing a porous membrane (53), eg in the form of a hollow fiber, the membrane (53) having a feed side and a permeate side, and a pore size of from about 10 Angstroms to about 200 Angstroms. Disposed in the pores of the porous membrane (53) is a facilitator liquid comprising a carrier eg silver nitrate dissolved in a suitable solvent. The process includes the steps of (a) dissolving the component in the facilitator liquid on the feed side of the porous membrane (53) at the feed gas/membrane interface; (b) forming a component-carrier complex; (c) diffusing the complex to the permeate side of the porous membrane (53): and (d) releasing the component from the carrier.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method of making a catalyst precursor by reacting the ion VO(O2) in aqueous solution with an antimony compound that contains Sb having a valence of 3. In one embodiment, the VO(O2) ion is made by reacting H2O2 with a vanadium compound. Also disclosed is making a catalyst by drying and calcining such precursor. When the drying is effected by spray drying a new microspheroidal catalyst is produced. The catalysts useful for ammoxidation of propane are more attrition resistant than catalysts of the same empirical formula made by prior art methods.

    Abstract: The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: where R is a beta alkylene radical containing 3 to 8 carbon atoms; x is 1 or 2; R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical containing 1 or 2 carbon atoms and Z is a group containing not more than 10 carbon atoms of one of the formulae: where R11 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbons. Specified petroleum stocks are gasoline, kerosine, diesel fuel, jet fuel, home heating oil, hydraulic fluids, dry cleaning solvents, greases, waxes and lubricating oils. These stocks may contain conventional additives such as detergents, anti-icing compounds, antioxidants, gum inhibitors, rust inhibitors, solvent oils, organo lead compounds, viscosity index improvers, dyes, deodorizers and stabilizers.
