Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for characterizing the photometric and/or colourmetric properties of a light source. The apparatus comprises a detector system which generates data indicative of at least spectroradiometric data for at least a portion of the light emitted by the light source. The apparatus further comprises a manipulation stage configured to control the relative position between the detector system and the light source. In addition, the apparatus comprises a control and processing system configured to control operation of the detector system, operation of the manipulation stage and record the data and the relative position of the detector system associated therewith. The control and processing system is further configured to process the collected data for determination of the photometric and/or colourmetric properties of the light emitted by the light source.

Abstract: A clean room ceiling light fixture formed as a sealed housing with a downwardly-directed light emitting aperture. A heat sink fixed within and spaced from the housing defines a cable raceway inside the housing. A plurality of LEDs are mounted on the heat sink. A high refractive index (polycarbonate) reflector coupled to each LED efficiently directs the LED's light through the aperture into the clean room. The LEDs and/or reflectors can be anti-reflectively coated to improve light transmission efficiency. A refractive index matching compound applied between each LED-reflector pair further improves light transmission efficiency. A spectrally selective filter material prevents ultraviolet illumination of clean rooms used for lithographic processes which are compromised by ultraviolet rays. A holographic diffusion lens and/or variable transmissivity filter can be provided to uniformly distribute the LEDs' light through the aperture. The fixture can be sized and shaped for snap-fit engagement within the H-Bar type clean room ceiling.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for controlling one or more light-emitting elements which are driven by forward currents to generate mixed light for use, for example, through a luminaire. The system has one or more light sensors for acquiring feedback optical sensor data and a user interface for providing reference data representative of a desired mixed light. The system also has a controller for transforming either the sensor data or the reference data into the coordinate space of the other and to determine a difference between the sensor and the reference data in that coordinate space. The controller is configured to adjust the forward currents during operating conditions so that the sensor data matches the setpoint data. The present invention also provides a system and method that can at least partially compensate certain temperature induced effects when transforming the optical sensor or the reference data.

Abstract: The present invention provides a luminaire system capable of generating ligh t of a desired chromaticity and luminous flux output during continuous operati on with varying ambient operating temperature. The luminaire system can be further capable of maintaining a desired correlated colour temperature durin g dimming of the luminaire. The luminaire system comprises one or more arrays of light-emitting elements for generating light with a current driver system coupled thereto for selectively supplying electrical drive current to each o f the arrays, wherein the current driver system is responsive to drive signals received from a controller. The luminaire system further comprises an optica l sensor system for generating optical signals representative of chromaticity and luminous flux output of the light. A heat sensing system is operatively coupled to the one or more arrays for generating signals representative of t he junction temperatures of arrays of light-emitting elements during operation. The luminaire system further comprises a controller that is operatively connected to the current driver system, the optical sensor system and the he at sensing system for receiving the signals generated by each of these systems and is configured to generate one or more drive signals for transmission to the current driver system in response to the optical signals and thermal signals received from the optical system and the heat sensing system, respectively, thereby enabling a desired level of control of the output ligh t.

Abstract: The present invention provides an integrated sign illumination system for the illumination of a sign face. The system comprises a contoured mounting device configured for directing a selected colour of light to a selected portion of the sign face. A plurality of light-emitting elements for the generation of light of one or more colours are optically coupled to the contoured mounting system at selected mounting sites. The colour of the light produced by the light emitting elements can be configured to be compatible with the selected illumination colour of the sign face thereby providing a means for the reduction of light loss due to absorption by the sign face.

Abstract: The present invention provides an electronic device package that can be fabricated using standard package fabrication technologies while providing a desired level of thermal transfer capability to an attachable thermal management system. The electronic device package according to the present invention comprises a housing that is specifically designed to couple with an evaporator portion of a thermal management system, for example a heat pipe. One or more electronic devices are mounted in thermal contact with the evaporator portion of the thermal management system. Upon completion of the fabrication of the package using standard techniques, the evaporator portion of the electronic device package is operatively coupled with a secondary portion of the thermal management system. In this manner the electronic device package can be fabricated to incorporate a desired thermal management system, while being fabricated using standard package fabrication processes and machinery.
