Abstract: PURPOSE: An air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to solve the problem of a sudden pressure increase by bypassing high-pressure liquid refrigerant in a receiver to a low-pressure side by opening an electric expansion valve on a cooler or an economizer connected to the receiver. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises a compressor(10), an outdoor heat exchanger(40), a receiver(50), a sub heat exchanger, an electric expansion valve(62), a temperature sensor(84), and a control unit. The compressor compresses refrigerant. The outdoor heat exchanger exchanges heat between refrigerant and water. The receiver stores some refrigerant heat-exchanged with the water by the outdoor heat exchanger. The receiver divides the stored refrigerant into gas refrigerant and liquid refrigerant. The sub heat exchanger super-cools the liquid refrigerant divided by the receiver.
