The method includes the steps of determining if intra prediction is performed for a current block based on coding information of the current block and neighboring blocks positioned in the vicinity of the current block; and determining a candidate prediction mode based on the coding information and performing the intra prediction for the current block based on the determined candidate prediction mode when the intra prediction is performed with respect to the current block.

The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for encoding and decoding video information. The method for encoding video information according to the present invention comprises the steps of: performing a prediction on a current block; and entropy-encoding the predicted information and transmitting the encoded information. The step of performing a prediction includes the steps of: acquiring motion information on a neighboring block from the neighboring block of the current block; and determining motion information on the current block based on the acquired motion information. In the step of transmitting the encoded information, information required for the prediction of the current block can be also transmitted. According to the present invention, the complexity of video compression can be lowered and the quantity of transmitted information can be reduced.
