    Abstract: PURPOSE: An ONU(Optical Network Unit) in an FTTH(Fiber To The Home) is provided to use WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical fiber between OLTs(Optical Line Terminations), and to use single-mode optical fiber between subscribers. CONSTITUTION: A PON(Passive Optical Network) slaver(410) extracts ATM cells by distinguishing an ATM cell boundary from downlink data, and inserts the ATM cells into uplink data. An ATM layer functional unit(420) multiplexes the ATM cells by receiving the extracted ATM cells, and decides whether a communication channel is normally set. ATM155 physical layer functional units(430) transceive the ATM cells with the ATM layer functional unit(420), and transmit data received from the ATM layer functional unit(420) to ATM155 interface devices through single-mode optical fiber. A controller(440) initializes each unit, monitors performance, and processes failures.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A burst-mode optical receiver using an extinction ratio characteristic of a received optical signal is provided to minimize distortion of a waveform of an output signal by detecting correctly a top peak voltage and a bottom peak voltage of a real burst packet. CONSTITUTION: A photo diode(PD1) is used for converting an optical signal having an extinction ratio characteristic and a burst characteristic to a current signal. A pre-amplifier(300) is used for converting the current signal to a voltage signal and amplifying the voltage signal. A first peak detector(310) is used for detecting a top peak voltage and a bottom peak voltage and outputting an intermediate value of the top peak voltage and the bottom peak voltage as a first reference voltage. A first limiting amplifier(320) is used for amplifying a difference between the amplified signal of the pre-amplifier and the first reference voltage. A buffer(350) is used for buffering an output signal of the first limiting amplifier. A first bottom peak detector(360) is used for outputting a bottom peak of an output signal of the buffer as a control signal.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: An optical network unit for audio and broadband data service is provided to adopt IEEE 1394 interface capable of transmitting service data such as video on demand, digital CATV, a high image quality teleconference etc. CONSTITUTION: A media connection unit(2) is connected to an ODN(Optical Distribution Network) constructed by a manual optical splitter between the OLT(Optical Line Termination) toward an ATM network by using a single optical line as a star topology type. A Physical layer unit(3) charges a P/S conversion, a clock restoration and S/P conversion, and PON slave functions. An ATM layer unit(4) receives an ATM cell stream provided from the physical layer unit(3) and checks whether the cell stream is connected and set to the inside of a system normally through a VPI/VCI as a connection discrimination field. An AAL1(ATM Adaptation Layer 1) function unit(6) has timing information and clock related functions for providing a real time service and is interfaced with an E1/POTS subscriber interface unit(8). An AAL5 function unit(7) is interfaced with an Ethernet interface unit(9) and an IEEE 1394 interface unit(10). A power supply unit(12) is constructed independently by using a common use power, has a power backup function and a function for checking a power failure, a power backup battery discharge and DC input break down. A control unit(13) controls the system wholly and functions an initialization of each device, a performance supervision, and a fault processing.
